This neat Scottish quintet — which included ex-Rezillos drummer Angel Paterson — sounds at times variously like Haircut One Hundred, U2 and XTC; variety keeps things hopping throughout A Thin Red Line. Although basically guitar-oriented, the lineup includes trumpet and synth/organ; songs are personal and thoughtful. Singer Norman Rodger has a serviceable voice and tries hard; the rest of the band, when the recording quality does them justice (different studios and sessions make for inconsistent sound), are no slouches either.
