Lawrence, Kansas has produced some interesting bands; Thumbs is talented but not striking. Singer Steve Wilson sounds like an ex-folkie with a Dylan fixation on the underproduced first LP. No Price on Earth rocks with more gusto and draws on other influences in offering thirteen thoughtful pop creations flavored in spots by swell garage Farfisa strains. The songs are functional, the production much improved and the playing skillful, if routine. Thumbs are probably a lot of fun live.
