Finland’s Husky Rescue resides comfortably alongside the likes of the Cardigans, Goldfrapp, Portishead and Violet Indiana: tastefully atmospheric down-tempo pop with a female singer. Reeta-Leena Korhola has a pleasant voice but so far lacks the personality of Nina Persson or Alison Goldfrapp, while the band — led by songwriter/bassist Marko Nyberg — creates moody, reasonably catchy backing music that likewise fails to distinguish the band from its influences or more distinctive up-and-comers like the Concretes. Country Falls compiles most of the tracks from prior EPs and singles, peaking with “Summertime Cowboy,” which combines girlie vocals and a perky riff lifted from Duran Duran’s “Save a Prayer.” The album showcases a young band with plenty of talent and some pretty good songs, but for the moment missing that special something. A bonus DVD offers videos for “New Light of Tomorrow,” “Summertime Cowboy” and “City Lights.”
