Together, the duo was one of Stax/Volt's greatest, perhaps second only to Otis Redding among vocal acts.

I know this is not regarded as one of Springsteen's best moments, but Sam Moore's appearances help enliven Human Touch and Lucky Town, like their duet on "Man's Job." Here is Springsteen's tribute including a collab with Moore doing "Hold On, I'm Coming".

Others may have known then as the prosaically named Sam & Dave, but to a select few, they were the Swanky Modes.

Yep! Time to bust out the laserdisc of "Tapeheads." My wife bought a Sam + Dave hits disc that was '89 re-recordings but that's better than nothing. We should have a Stax era comp though for the real deal.
