Kraftwerk - 50th anniversary tour of Autobahn

Kraftwerk doing the 50th anniversary of 'Autobahn' thing. Are they going to play the album? I saw them around 10 years ago and it was fine and I figured that was enough. Now the promise of a multimedia tour of 'Autobahn' has me intrigued. Not much going on here in March, so I may check it out. Interesing to note that it looks like in Pittsburgh, they are scheduled to play outdoors -- in March? Also curious is the promo video with Tony Hawk?

My wife and I saw them here a couple of years ago at the same venue they're playing next year. It was fun (I'll go a touch farther than "fine"), but that one was $100+ a pop and I imagine this one won't be any cheaper, so I'll probably skip it.

Have seen 2.75 Kraftwerk concerts out of 4 in the last 27 years. It all depends on what's on the plate this time. Charlotte is only two hours away.

How many members from the AUTOBAHN lineup will be performing on this tour?

Co-founder Ralf Hutter.

Though it occurs to me he could very well hire a bunch of scabs to stand up there on stage while everything runs automatically.

He should should bring a bunch of mannequins to pose in front of keyboards

the other co-founder Florian Schneider died in 2020 though he had left the band over 10 years before that.

Current members:
Ralf Hütter – lead vocals, vocoder, synthesizers, keyboards
Henning Schmitz – sound effects, live keyboards
Falk Grieffenhagen – live video technician (2013–2022); electronic percussion (2023–present)
Georg Bongartz - live video technician (2023–present)

I thought the same thing when I saw them before. I guess there's a certain symmetry with four members.

Truth be told, what Michael says is basically what's kept me and a few friends from ever going to Kraftwerk, though I can understand why it isn't a deal breaker. From what I've read from their '70s performances, especially from those still trying to understand the group, there was some speculation as to how much of those shows were actually live performance, extending to the actual presence of humans onstage. I get the sense that those elements were never the main point of the shows - I think the concerts were by design spectacles removed from the band members themselves, and the recent tours have been great spectacles (the clips I've seen look amazing).

At the same time, if I had a time machine, the concerts I'd go to would be the ones where the members actually danced and looked visibly thrilled to be onstage. (My favorite I've seen is from 1981 - I'll post the YouTube clip below.)

Yeah, that's the sort of response I got from most of my friends when I showed them my photos from seeing Kraftwerk in Denver. One of my friends -- a long-time concert pal -- told me, "You spent good money to see this band, and for all you know, those four guys just stood there in front of you and spent two hours surfing porn."
