Absolutely devastated

The sexism and racism of this country are never more clear than when a corrupt, incompetent, twice-impeached, convicted criminal, admirer of authoritarians, adjudicated sexual predator, and wanna-be dictator is twice elected over highly qualified women. Absolutely shameful and disgraceful. So devastating to see.

From what I gather, he got pretty much the exact same number of votes as he did in 2020. But Harris got 15 million fewer than Biden did. So 15 million probable blue voters didn't bother.

Republicans always vote. Democrats do when they feel like it. If every fucking idiot who claims to lean Democrat would fucking vote, there would be no contest.

Makes me think the only reason Biden won in 2020 is because so many people were off work due to Covid and decided that they didn't have anything better to do. And if Voting Day was made a holiday, the same idiots would probably use it for a shopping day and still go nowhere near a polling place.

In terms of general reaction, I'm with Brad. In the past few decades, when the Democrats have lost, they didn't just lose, they lose BIG, and the way they lose doesn't leave a feeling of grief so much as enormous anger. In many cases, it's magnified in ways that were wholly avoidable.

The blame game has already begun - the Democrats didn't do enough, the Democrats went too far with their more liberal policies - but honestly does anyone think Trump consistently delivers on his promises to his voters? (see past tariffs that raised prices due to China retaliating with tariffs, or getting the GOP to nearly repeal the ACA without any promised replacement). Once again, I see the same social media posts about not giving up, keep fighting, etc. but the hard reality is that the worst mistakes CAN'T be undone (see the Supreme Court) and there's no magical candidate that's going to come in and both undo what was lost AND grant all your other wishes. With a conservative supermajority in the Supreme Court and the GOP securing control of the Senate and possibly the House, they could very well cancel out the Obama years more thoroughly than the way Reagan wiped out so much of LBJ's domestic policies. I have absolutely NO reason to be optimistic.

Am I allowed to share that I'm happy with the result? Will you all still be my TP friends?

Yes, Zoo, but I am curious, as to why you're happy.

Because the candidate I voted for won?

As a rule, I refuse to debate over the internet. Not because I am generally unwilling to explain what I believe and why, but because it exhausts me to do so on discussion boards. I gave that up a long time ago. I participate in this board to discuss music (and occasionally film or literature). That's it.

By saying I was happy about it was not meant to start anything but to just remind folks that not everyone who participates here thinks the same way.

Classy post zoo and I agree with you 1000%. There are plenty of other toxic venues to post political discussions in. Over 50% of America voted for the victor; makes no sense to seek to vent and drive divisiveness on a music-centric board.

On the bright side, it's been over 24 hours, so he must've ended the conflict in Gaza by now.
