BBC's Greatest Year in Music

1967 wins.

The rest of the top ten (not sure about the ranking order or anything):

1957
1966
1969
1973
1976
1979
1984
1994
2005???? (In large part due to JAMES BLUNT??????? Jeepers, the Brits are looney sometimes.)

I do notice in their brief blurb for 1979, they mention Parallel Lines by Blondie coming out, although that was a 78 release.

Anyhow, as far as I'm concerned 77 is the best year, and that didn't even make the top 10. And I am partial to 1984, but not for any reasons they mention - I think 84 was the last really killer year for top-40 singles, but they don't really mention that.

Maybe it's from a strictly commerical point of view.

Meh, I'm not so crazy about '67 - that's the year everything got messed up - too much Art with a capital A - sucked all the fun out of it.

'77 is the best year but nobody agrees with me on the best album of '77 (Heartbreakers !), so what do I know?

'66 has the 3 albums that make the top 10 of almost every Rock list ever assembled (Blonde on Blonde, Revolver and Pet Sounds), I'd have an easier time picking '66 than '67 just for personal tastes.

Although I kinda lean towards '66 myself, any year that produced "Waterloo Sunset" wasn't totally bad

Growing up in the D.C. area, I didn't hear the BBC to comment on it. I've heard an old syndicated show, BBC Rock Hour, and some CD's from their archives. I've heard The Beatles at the Beeb, They Yardbirds and others. My favorite is a David Bowie 3 CD set. As far as great years in music goes, 1965-67 were really great because of all the classic albums and singles released by great artists in the UK and US. Where do I start? Also, 1977 was great because of punk.

I have to agree with the 1966 as topping 67 in a big way.

Albums: Aftermath, Revolver, Blonde on Blonde, Face to Face, Small Faces debut, Byrds 5D & Love's debut.

Great Singles by the Who, the Yardbirds, The Action and half of the music that is on Rhino Records' Nuggets Box Set.

1966 Kicked Ass!!!
