Wait a minute..I just thought of something...

Foo Fighters just got inducted, right? So does that mean that PAT SMEAR is in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame?!?

One shakes one’s head in wonderment..

Wait til Jann finds out that his precious Hall has been infected by a Germ. Then he tries to kill it with a can of.. Black Flag?! Nooo! It’s enough to give him a..a.. Bad Brain just thinking about it.

Huh. Since we’ll probably never see the likes of Husker Du or X getting in, I guess we should salute the illustrious Mr Ruthensmear, a guy who spent a post-Darby decade futzing around, making half-assed solo albums before he hit the jackpot. Let’s hope a food fight breaks out at the induction ceremony.

Holy Spicoli I think you’re right! Right?

(I believe I just invented that exclamation... it’s a clandestine 80s film-inspired kudos to monk’s recent blog posts)

Maybe because their names rhyme, whenever I think of Pat Smear I think of Anton Fier. Guys who’ve been around forever. I can’t believe how many albums I own that this guy drummed on. Is Fier in the rrhof?

Not to take away from a Germ. I hope you are indeed right about this Mr. Fab!

Yeah, I know the Hall doesn’t induct everyone who ever played in a band (ask Doug Yule), only the “classic lineup,” so not sure how they’ll go with the FFs.

as others have pointed out, Belinda Carlisle was the Germs' first drummer, so that's two Germs in the HoF.

Cut & pasted right from the RRHoF web site:

INDUCTEES: Dave Grohl, Taylor Hawkins, Rami Jaffee, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear

Yeah, the way the exact membership gets selected, for a band that gets inducted into the RRHoF, can follow all sorts of confusing, warped logic.

Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley bitched a lot that only the original quartet was being inducted. They felt that several of Kiss' past members had made sizeable contributions to the band over the years. (Of course, none of those contributions were sizeable enough to merit a partnership offer in the band; everyone, save for the original four, has been an employee of Kiss.)

When Pearl Jam was inducted, the HoF skipped over two of its former drummers, Dave Abbruzzese and Jack Irons. The latter already had been inducted as a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, so he didn't make too big a fuss over it. The former, however, felt pretty snubbed.

Fleetwood Mac was also a complicated one for the Hall.

The anti-Doug Yule is Reeves Gabrels, inducted as a member of the Cure despite never having recorded a note with them as a member of the band. (He was a guest on the obligatory new song on their second singles compilation, 15 years before becoming an official member of the band.) Presumably that will be rectified when Godot finally arrives bearing the next Cure album.

That's frankly ridiculous. Smith must've made it a condition of showing up to perform. I think the Hall probably caves to those kinds of demand after the Guns 'N Roses debacle.

I wondered about Gabrels, too and have read somewhere that Smith went to bat for him, which is nice. I will say that it pleases me that Reeves is in the RRHOF because that guy saved Bowie's bacon and deserves it if only for that factor.

This is a very interesting point...some solo artists have "classic" bands that were often more than mere backing musicians and deserve as much credit as guys like Roger O'Donnell or Nigel Harrison or John Illsley, just to name a few "real" band members off the top of my head.

Taking Bowie for example, perhaps Mick Ronson or Mike Garson deserve a little more credit? And what about Elton John's classic band (Davey Johnstone, Dee Murray, Nigel Olsen), not to mention Bernie Taupin?

Nate Mendel was in Brotherhood which means straight edgers have infiltrated the HOF too. That said, they never made him an official member because he owned a NOFX t-shirt.
