A!l the ambition of Phil Spector, all the taste of Joe Exotic. Impossible to take seriously, but too genuinely goofy to actively hate. I'm sure he's currently unimpressed with the choir of heavenly angels and is urging them "More! MORE!!!!!!!!"

He was definitely the "King Of Kitsch-Rock®." Even as a teenager I looked askance at the amount of genuine irony within "Bat Out of Hell." I have to say that when I first heard of a singer called "Meatloaf," what I was imagining was far more avant garde than what was delivered. And yet the dude got roped into producing Sisters Of Mercy singles. That I have in my house. Weird. The guy loved mullets, but at least he was honestly grey. That much I'll give him.

It's actually kind of a shame he didn't get involved with Goth any further than Sisters of Mercy, because his sensibilities were a natural fit for the genre. The man loved himself some drama. And vampires.

From the STREETS OF FIRE soundtrack, this '80s AOR banger is a favorite: [www.youtube.com]. It sounds like Pat Benatar and Journey collaborating on a Broadway musical, but much better than that would actually be. Journey had no idea how they ridiculous and cliched they were. Steinman was consciously playing around with cliches.

Yeah, because he knew that clichés sell.
