"Bullroarer" - Midnight Oil

I have a great memory of hearing this song live...not during the concert, but the soundcheck. The Oils were playing the band shell at the University of Florida in 1993 or so. My dorm room was next to the field where the band shell was located, so when bands played there, I could hear the soundchecks. The show was on a Fri night. I was taking a nap in the late afternoon, and I was awakened to the sound of loud guitars. It was the Oils blasting through "Bullroarer" (sans vocals). They didn't play it at the show that night, so I got a bonus song, so to speak.

"Bullroarer" was the standout song of the night when I saw Midnight Oil at Red Rocks. It was 1987, on the Diesel and Dust Tour. Peter Garrett pulled out an actual bullroarer and started whirling it onstage, at the beginning of the song. That sound was absolutely hair-raising, echoing off those tall rocks.

And I agree, Mike Park is a great guy -- a genuinely good soul.
