In one of the many bad rhyme threads on this board, I think I picked "And one day I would be on top/And I'd look down upon the map" from "This is the Modern World" as my favorite Paul Weller bad rhyme. (Which makes it sound like he had a lot, but that's not the case.)

However, after listening to "The Eton Rifles" tonight, I'd like to nominate "We were no match for their untamed wit/But some of the lads said they'd be back next week" instead. At least top and map are on the same continent as rhyming.

Both are damn fine songs regardless.

Aw, c'mon, Breno. That song isn't really based on a rhyme scheme for the most part. He sets that up in the opening lines (with only the rhyming couplet at the end):

Sup up your beer and collect your fags,
Theres a row going on down near slough,
Get out your mat and pray to the west,
Ill get out mine and pray for myself.
Thought you were smart when you took them on,
But you didnt take a peep in their artillery room,
All that rugby puts hairs on your chest,
What chance have you got against a tie and a crest.

This is very true. But for some reason none of the other lines have ever jumped out at me as non-rhyming quite like wit/week.

Just reading those lyrics makes me want to put it on when I get home.
