  • Boys Want Fun (Ger. Teldec) 1986

Germany’s biggest “’60s band” is a Berlin trio which blends Who, Kinks, Hollies and perhaps a dash of Searchers into a seamless sound that could have come straight off a British ’60s anthology. (Although the Subtones admittedly have sonic technology on their side.) Boys Want Fun is cute and has a big beat, even if the lyrics are a bit sappy. A super-schmaltz track and an overextended live version of the Who’s “Circles” are the only turkeys, but conveniently they’re both side-closers.
