Seattle singer Nick Pollock can claim genealogical props for membership in an unrecorded version of the nascent Alice in Chains, but that’s not much to build a career on. Not surprisingly, his more recent quartet — formed with the guitarist (Owen Wright) and bassist (Chris Ivanovich) of another local band, Mistrust — skillfully hits many of the same bellowing not-quite-metal hard-rock marks with more conscious stylistic variety and decidedly less inspiration. If Kiss or Black Sabbath ever need a backup vocalist, Pollock’s number should be on their shortlist. My Sister’s Machine reportedly disbanded in 1994.
