On its American debut, this Toronto duo sounds like half the Bangles. Steve Berlin’s hack-in-a-coffee-house rock production (lose the flute, guys) lays too heavy a burden on MichŠle Gould and Suzanne Little, who write nice but unspectacular folk-pop romances and sing them with liquid, uplifting harmonies. Lava Hay is certainly talented, but Lava Hay doesn’t have the magic (or even the hooks) to be anything more than a passing warm breeze.
