Great closing couplet, Del!

Thanks, Rhett! New Order's 21st century output does get short shrift. Of course, theoretically at least, when your productivity averages an album per decade, that should be enough time to do some pretty good work.

"Month of May" – Arcade Fire (for Régine Chassagne's birthday)

I have such mixed feelings about this band. They have some great songs, but also some insufferable, pretentious dreck. I've pretty much given up on giving them too much of my time except the occasional listen to The Suburbs, which I still enjoy.

I thought the self-titled EP and Funeral showed lots of promise, and both Neon Bible and The Suburbs lived up to it. Then they took their music into a more dance-oriented direction, and I decided to look elsewhere. They were great when I saw them live, circa 2009.

Hilarious! Apart from the Joe Jackson/New Order, my other fave is:
"What's With Terry?" – The Undertones
"He's a Reptile" – The Soft Boys

Yup, "short shrift" is right. I admit to not hearing anything from them since the '90s. Who knows, maybe it's good? I doubt it will be "Power Corruption and Lies" good, but few things are. A DJ on my channel had a great time at a recent Peter Hook & The Light show, lots of NO and JD covers.

I've heard that too about Hooky's shows and am considering going to see them when they come through here next month. Anyone here seen them on this tour?

Not on this tour, but I did see them a few years ago. They did two sets, one dedicated to an NO album and the other to a JD album. (I can't remember which at this point.) They were really good! Hook's not the right vocalist for the NO stuff (though one of the guitarists shared vocals with him and sounded more like Sumner), so I thought the JD half was much stronger. I don't know if his is a show I need to see more than once, since it's a basically a cover band that happens to have an original member in it (if that's the right thing to say, considering JD never toured the states), but I've seen nostalgic album front-to-back shows a lot worse than the Light's.

I found my article on the Hook show (which was part of a food 'n' music mini-fest here in Austin called Hot Luck), and see that each set was devoted to NO/JD's singles comps that were each titled Substance. So basically greatest hits sets (if JD has such a thing), so I'm not sure if it counts or not.

I'm surprised to see it was only four years ago. It feels more like a decade.

I'm seeing them tomorrow. They are doing both "Closer" and "Unknown Pleasures" with a few NO songs.

Yeah, I think on this tour they're doing a half dozen NO songs to start the show, and then as Heff says, both JD albums in their entirety. And probably a mix in the encore.

I think I'll go see 'em.

I'd go see that show.

Edit: which I see is hitting Austin in five days. $65 is more than I can afford, though, and I'd have to write about it to get on the guest list, and I think I said what I had to say about 'em in the piece four years ago. Let us know how it was if you go.
