Bigger Lovers, unfortunately, are calling it a day. They're doing a farewell show in Philly this month. Patrick Berkery is still gainfully employed as the Pernice Brothers' drummer--and does a damn good job of it (though, god, I loved it when Rick Menck took up the spot for a few shows).

They were a fine band. Philly is just cursed with bands. Anybody remember The Interpreters? How didn't that band sell a billion albums.

Hey, I saw the Interpreters — even have their album (with the mock passport cover). Not a bad band at all — they were doing the punk/power pop thing in the late 1990s but just got lost in the shuffle.

The Bigger Lovers I never heard myself, but as a big Pernice Brothers fan I do know them by reputation.

Philly definitely has a solid strain of power pop going on...I'd add Buzz Zeemer to the list being generated here. "Honey in the Hive" is the best starting point for Bigger Lovers, and "Bought Your Ghost" is a simply sublime song off that album.

to wit:

a www.singingfish.com search for "Bought Your Ghost" (with quotes) brings up a high quality mp3 that I'm listening to now.
