Usually I avoid any site that has attacking Israel as one of its main agendas, but that is a very moving piece.

"There was a time when the pen was mightier than the sword. That was a time when people believed in truth and regarded truth as an independent power and not as an auxiliary for government, class, race, ideological, personal, or financial interest."

[**RASPBERRY SOUND,** much like the one Keith Moon made behind Tommy Smothers' back]

When was this time? I happen to have done years of research into newspapers, literature, and essayists going back to when we were English colonies, and I can guarantee you that this time has never existed. In fact, in the early 1800s, the newspapers were more agenda-driven, ideological, and downright nasty than today's news media. And "objectivity"? That was a largely economic decision made in the earlier half of the 20th Century when each news entity shared a huge collective audience--ie, it didn't make sense to offend anyone because you had a massive and diverse audience. Even Ben freaking Franklin wrote his own letters to the editor, posing as other people, including middle-aged women.

"Truth" my butt.

Absolutely spot on. While the myth of America talks of its noble past, ideology, etc., the reality is that human beings have always been human beings and have done stupid crap like that forever. Try reading some of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams' attack ads against each other.

They're awesome: [www.youtube.com]
