Liam Gallagher John Squire

The duo album marrying two titans of Britpop is a solidly entertaining exercise in which the former Stone Rose supplies the once and future Oasis vocalist (“singer” might be a tad generous) with a batch of tuneful homilies (“One Day at a Time,” “Make It Up As You Go Along,” “You’re Not the Only One”) wrapped up in pleasing rock arrangements. Affording Liam the chance to make what sounds very much like an Oasis album without his brother might seem like a great creative opening, but the presence of a proper guitarist is lost as Squire’s riffing here tends toward hacky Hendrix gestures and adds very little.
