Guitarist-programmer-producer Richard Formby — whose long career has included stints with (or brief roles in) Spectrum (Soul Kiss (Glide Divine)), Jazz Butcher, In Embrace, Mogwai, the Dakota Suite, Pale Saints and other bands; his production credits include the Telescopes — is the instrumental half of this duo, which continues down the slow-moving spiral path swirling out from Rugby, England in the wake of Spacemen 3. With singer Howard Storey, T2000 meanders pleasantly through the usual narcotized haze, alternating mood with menace, drone and drive. Two of the tracks on Phazed & Confused are noted as part of the Technology Forgery Series, but other than a resemblance to Herbie Hancock’s “Rockit” (“TFS #8”), I have no idea what that means.
