Bassist Jack Casady formed SVT in Northern California to temporarily escape his Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna aboveground image; taking a backseat to guitarist Brian Marnell (and, for the EP, keyboardist Nick Buck as well), he let SVT develop into an almost-good hard-rocking band with new wavey overtones. The group’s best song, the great “Heart of Stone,” appears on No Regrets; otherwise, little of SVT’s hot and sweaty conviction translated to vinyl.
