Although the Squalls aren’t exactly immune to the Athens environment, the eclectic Georgian sextet is too unaffectedly artless in its polite pop-folk-rock to strongly resemble any of their musical neighbors. Rebel Shoes is earnestly bland, a colorless ice-breaker of no special merit; the engaging No Time has more energy, skilled musical variety and hooky melodic strength. If only singer Bob Hay’s voice didn’t occasionally make the group sound like Dire Straits…
