A posthumous compilation of late-’70s singles and rough mixes, this sixteen-song 45 rpm album has technical shortcomings but lots of justifying character and rock energy. While the vocalist displays incipient David Thomas screech potential, the almost-catchy songs are well-constructed Brit-punk — early-Buzzcocks-meets-Vibrators — with more intelligence and sense than blind aggression; unexpected production fillips add to the fun.
