People in Glass is melodic North Carolina rock, produced by Don Dixon and characterized by Ms. Spontaine’s earthy, passionate vocals, with energetic and able support by Graphic’s three other members. Complex, only mildly adventurous, but untrendily up-to-date and exciting in a clear-headed, unassuming manner.
The earlier Spontaine solo recording, also produced by Don Dixon, has Mitch Easter playing on it. The seven songs include a plucky countryfied cover of “I’m into Something Good,” the Goffin/King number that was a 1964 smash for Herman’s Hermits; a winning, horn-filled “Girl Don’t Come” (Sandie Shaw, same year); also a Beatles song, a strong reading of the Chris Stamey-penned title track and a Dixon/Spontaine collaboration.
