This stylistically prescient LA rap duo mixed more than races: the rhythm tracks on Don’t Know Yet are uncut heavy metal with a booming drum sound. Unfortunately, the MCs, both ostensibly gang-connected, are not especially convincing (one of them has a lame Val-boy accent); the pair doesn’t so much rap as shout inane and atonal lyrics in crude rhythmic synch with the music. Despite two relevant covers (Sly Stone’s “Don’t Call Me Nigger…Whitey” and Jimi Hendrix’s “I Don’t Live Today”), this attempt at a novel hybrid is a gimmicky failure.
