I'm fine with the idea of Haim (and wish them success) just not the results. It has the patina of label-engineered control and age-downward polish. There have been a lot of similar bands this year; against which Haim just doesn't stack. Fine enough for chartfodder, but as Brad points out, given the accolades... Brad's "bloodless version of Tegan and Sara", though, is pby Paganizer
I thought you were teasing because you WERE related. But, if you go back enough generations...you are. ( It irritates pretty much EVERYBODY that the GOP has a non-representational policy vis–à–vis their electorate and act like petulant toddlers when completing their assigned task of the annual budget. The GOP did it to Clinton for 21 days so expect that to be a starting point. It had an effect oby Paganizer
Painful is a 20 desert island for me and stays current in car/mp3/top of stereo. Still own the Kirsty the Tupelo and I think the Swervedriver. Mazzy Star disliked to the point of anger as only a few artists can do. Have somehow forgotten the James or if I own it.by Paganizer
Made it through Lorde. Can't make it through any Haim tracks. Lorde = mainstream singer-songwiter Haim = generic chart stuff with horribly brickwalled/compressed production one minute and you have it all Too many good underground albums in the last few months anyway.by Paganizer
It's always weird when a person in public office is confused and/or misinformed about a current event/issue (Texas jokes aside). The dark side of the democracy form. So, you're saying you ARE related? What next, Bryan Adams?by Paganizer
Arcade Fire sounded amazing when I've seen them, too, Dev. And in those venues all instruments were distinguished. As Michael knows more than I, mixing for broadcast is a completely different animal than front of house (my 1st degree supposedly covering both, but my experience being almost entirely the latter, plus recording). Well if it doesn't include Jane Sibrey, it's inauthentic. I imagine the list is like most best-movie lists. They ask people to contribute and end up with no movies pre-1998. Rush vs Bond - Lazenby is the odd guy out but was one of the best Bonds. So he's 2112. Nobody ever mentions Barry Nelson (the first to play Bond). So he's any album post Grace Under Presby Paganizer
I'm sure I'll listen through the Arcade Fire by year's end. None of the others though. You just can't accurately through-produce 20 instruments on a network tv show from a studio like that; you make production compromises. You can step to the mike to sing and find that everything sounds different than soundcheck and end up bellowing. That said, this is a band that's still coasting on the strength of its one great album. The rest of their stuff is good for chart-toppingby Paganizer

It has taken me most of a lifetime to get over disco. Well, I haven't really gotten over it. It's more like a beach ball that I see on the walk to work and now rather than booting it, I let it lie. It's in a gutter, where the slight depression always collects a small puddle. Not even a brisk wind causes wobble. Damn wind.by Paganizer

I love 95% of the X collection (and don't go a week without some X) but ultimately only 1 3/4 XTC albums and a couple singles (the easy-listening period that started with Mummer and the early angular period that hasn't aged well having knocked them off the playlist for me). But since my files over the last 15 years have been spread over multiple devices, I've no idea (without aby Paganizer

except Rush's first drummer couldn't tour so they nabbed Peart ZZTop had 1st single w/different lineup So I think with that metric you'll mostly be looking for family acts & hair bands (Zebra @ 38yrs). I'll give Sonic Youth a longevity nod though (not adding "with Jim O'Rourke" on product labeling doesn't bother me, nor playing live with O'bold).by Paganizer

Yup, worst overall traffic I've ever drove in. Due to the geography it's all funneled to the 5 corridor. You learn the surface streets instead, à la Canada (mysterious land of no beltways/connectors/controlled access). The SuperSonics leaving may have severely impacted the pricing matrix. They may price the structure very competitively now or have a floating price for slow weeks.
