Disney will continue to consolidate their hold on power-pop. Damn shame.by blasmo
For those of us who knew this was going to happen, and warned everyone around them, it's like being Cassandra without the audience. Wow. I'm sorry for those of you who voted for the guy. How do you sleep? To quote Rainer Wolfcastle: "On a bed of money, with many beautiful women."by blasmo

Nice people. Opened up for them in OKC several years ago at VZD's.by blasmo
"All I Want Is You" is one of the greatest songs of all time, with one of the most perfect guitar solos. And backing vocals. The missing link between glam and prog, with all the energy of the former, and the weirdness of the latter. Damn. And hooks, too.by blasmo
The Girl With The Loneliest Eyes might be the prettiest song ever. I mean that as a compliment. A high one.by blasmo

I had a friend who took a job in Calif. at a computer video editing company, and half of his job was to sit with his manager in a car while they looked for (I believe it was) a member of Iron Butterfly, who had helped found the company, and who would disappear for days on end. He usually wound up at this park that they would sit and wait at. And one day, he never was seen again... Again, I thiby blasmo

Yeah, RIP, Jimmy Carl Black. Watched 200 Motels the other night and continued to laugh my ass off at "Lonesome Cowboy Burt". I liked his comment about working with Zappa in the 80's: "It was great. I even got paid!" I have the Geronimo Black album, and it's not bad.by blasmo

The "concept" is kind of like Armed Forces, which used the metaphor of military maneuvering and romantic relationships to discuss facism. In Imp. Bed., the concept is different types of romantic struggles as a means to discuss Europe's post-WWII problems. I promise I am not making this shit up. Yup, I do have a degree in English, and am not afraid to overuse it. And, yeah, it isby blasmo
Kirsty was one of the greats. She a genuine gift for pop structure, and Kite is a masterpiece, with Tropical Brainstorm and Desparate Characters coming very close. Her singles collection rivals many others, and she had a crackin' bust, to quote Morrissey. Damn straight, she's missed.by blasmo

By coincidence, my wife and I were beginning to put books on shelves after moving last week and I grabbed "One Day..." and decided to put it on the "To Read" stack. Solzhenitsyn was a very important discovery for me when I was starting my high school years. And ditto on the pleasure at seeing this thread. No kidding. Both of those are great live albums. I've been a Saints fan for a long time, and Speed Connection was the second Fleshtones album I ever bought (Hexbreaker! the first). I'd love to find a copy of Speed Conenction II on CD, but I can't even find a copy of the iRS Greatest Hits compilation they made for under 50 bucks. Is there any early Fleshtones on CD?by blasmo
Ahhh, yes: Robyn Hitchcock's Gotta Let This Hen Out! One of the greatest things ever. Recommended by David Fricke, and once I bought it, I became obsessed with collecting everything Hitchcock did. Same with many people I know, even people who normally wouldn't listen to that stuff. I used to play it at parties, and people would laugh at some songs and ask who it was.
