Hard -- Gang of Four. Wait. No, that sucks beyond belief, except for "Silver Lining". I'll go for XTC's two bastard albums of the 80's: Mummer and The Big Express. Both albums are too overproduced in places, and Big Express's mix buries some great melodies, but repeat listenings allow the melodies to come through, and there's some nice guitar-skronk in "Tby blasmo
I've always thought the band was really underrated. I could listen to Bikini Red all day; I think it's their best full-lengther.by blasmo

Saw them on the tour for that CD. They were fantastic -- tight and loud (that's what she said). Clem Burke might be the greatest drummer ever. Or at least the drummer with the coolest hair ever. And that CD is great. Well worth a listen.by blasmo

Watched Vh1 Soul yesterday, as they were playing a block of Earth, Wind, and Fire videos, a band I still love. They played some Kirk Franklin "tribute" to the song "September" that was nothing but a note-for-note, boringly choir-sung version with Franklin yelling "It's a tribute!" and "Yeah!" every few bars. I immediately thought of this thread. It souby blasmo
"Also agree on Propaganda, but what would you classify as the filler on Kimono?" I've never been a big fan of "Complaints", and I think "Heaven", while funny, isn't as strong as the other tracks -- the other tracks including 3-4 of the greatest rock songs ever (Town, Hasta, Amateur, Christmas). I think Propaganda is an overall stronger album, even if it doby blasmo
"...this is one boring-ass list..." Oh, hell no. There's a reason why a lot of these classic albums are classics. I deliberately tried to avoid a lot of the obvious ones on my list, but had to get 1-2 in. That said: We're Only In It For The Money (special case, since a lot of it is not necessarily "songs") Ditto on Loveless (have you heard Nadja's version ofby blasmo
Interesting how many lame-ass rock bands/singers are jumping on the (it's really not) country bandwagon. I have a political theory about this, but I'd hate to bore you. It's linked to the rise of hip-hop and the alienation of... damn, I got started. Sorry. And is there anything more ass-kissing than pop-country these days?by blasmo
Good question, but at least it's not My Three Sons fan-fic.by blasmo
For starters, I'd add: Pour Down Like Silver Armed Forces Mekons Rock 'n' Roll Cheap Trick's first Rubber Soul I Just Can't Stop It and Special Beat Service Metal Box (Of course, I'm admitting not every single song on each of these is "killer", but all their songs add to the theme or concept of the work). Also: Pleased To Meet Me, which I have beby blasmo

That's an interesting distinction. I was trying to think of some more examples after reading other posts, and found myself drawn to two albums, one I think's a masterpiece, and one a good rock album: Automatic For The People and Listen Like Thieves. Is New Orleans Instrumental off the former filler? It's a mood piece, and I like it, but does it work to enhance the mood, or is it juby blasmo

There is a radio station here in OKC: Magic 104. It's what everyone listens to at work, although I have NPR at my desk. It's one of those horrific, play what "30-something-secretaries-who-thought-Jon-Bon-Jovi-was-hard-rock-at-the-time" like to listen to. Every once in a while, they play a couple of Coldplay's songs. Check with your local record store to make sure you get the fixed versions of the New Order reissues. The difference isn't so much in the remastering, but the bits of audio garbage that drop in because of the crappy CD's themselves. They've fixed them, but make sure they're the reissued reissues. And not to set them up too high, but the CD's for Power, Low-Life, and evenby blasmo

40 is Dave Gahan? The anti-sex man? Okay, Depeche Mode fans. Why? I just can't listen to them without laughing. I've heard a lot of the Mode's stuff, but I just can't get it. Notice how Ira does liner notes only for the best groups? Cheap Trick. Sparks. Bugaloos. Color Me Badd. I wish my album collection had survived my flooded apartment a few years ago. The loss of old Sparks albums, including a copy of Halfnelson, still burns. The CD's aren't quite as...crunchy...as their guitar sound used to be. The new, 21st Century remasters add the middle back, but arby blasmo
The fact that the "Ubu Box" sat there for a year is astounding. It's an awesome piece of wonderment. The Ubu Box can also be used a a 3d12 attack method in the "Expedition to the Barrier Peaks" ADD Module. (this is so a geek thing and not true, though it should be.)
