I belong to a CD mix trading group, and instead of doing a theme- based mix or something similar this time 'round, I've decided to do a Rockpile compilation, since I've never seen one that gathers all their stuff on one CD. Here's the track listing: 1. Down Down Down Live At The Palladium, NYC, 08.20.1979 2. And So It Goes Live At The Palladium, NYC, 08.20.1979 3. Iby blasmo
I eventually downloaded my copy off the Pirate Bay. The fidelity is amazing for something like this. Oh, and there's very little Mike Love on this thing. He didn't understand a thing about Smile and screamed at Van Dyke Parks about the meaning of the lyric "Over and over/ The crow cries uncover/ The cornfield". That was pretty much it for him. I love Smile. I think it's magnificent. Can't listen to it in pieces, or it doesn't work as well. Try the PurpleChick version if you can find it. For a bootleg, the fidelity's amazing.by blasmo

I meant "every time". Every Peter Case tape? Worked. Hitchock? About half the time. But those girls were more fun.by blasmo
Peter Case mix tape works every time. Robyn Hitchcock doesn't.by blasmo
Holy gods. I had no idea I had that many posts. And now here's one more.by blasmo
And now for the videogamic response:by blasmo
Yeah, but this is less like a sponge and more like Silly Putty -- picks up the image but it's flat and doesn't hold much. I don't think it holds up at all, but he did a much better version with King of America, a few years later. I remember listening to the first song on that and remarking that he'd gotten country and western better on this than AB. What he found was the soulby blasmo
I think only Chris and Tina have outlasted Ira and Georgia. If they break-up, then everything is less than zero.by blasmo
Huh. I swear I replied to this to say that my copy also contained the typo, and a few derogatory comments about the album, as well as a personal observation about how weird it was to encounter that one the first time. Can't be the same as the Ambien "Pink Floyd" thing...Must've locked up and I didn't resend. But, yeah, that was so weird to encounter when it came out.by blasmo
Found these two through Bill Fay: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBqUdDnyVeg Eugene McDaniels: No idea how I missed these. The McDaniels album is amazing. 5.99 to download it at Amazon.by blasmo

Go back and listen to the stuff you already love. Listen closely. That'll reboot the system.by blasmo
Their SNL performance is one of the best I've seen -- tight, energetic, and a blast. 30 sec. commercial at first. Lot of standing, though. They could use a mover. Post Edited (09-24-11 12:24)by blasmo
Yes. And he is therefore the most principled punk of all.by blasmo
Automatic was a perfect end point. They should have ended then. Monster turned me off the group in a way that was immediate and savage. That said, I know a lot of younger people who started listening to them with that album, and that era means as much to them as 80's REM still does for me. I was listening to a bunch of their stuff last night and remembering how awesome it was to drive aroundby blasmo
So after listening to Trust again this morning, I break my problems down to one thing: everything after "New Lace Sleeves". Before that, you could call the album "Tales From Clubland" and it works as an almost concept album about a nightclub band and the people who populate the club. "Whisper to a Scream" is just too slight and stands out like a sore thumb. After thaby blasmo
Delvin, could you help with a year for the end of the period you're talking about? Like 1974-75? Do we have to just include musicians?by blasmo
The Ryko CD of Get Happy! might be the most EC bang for your buck, given the amount of amazing B-sides that show up on it (I don't have the Rhino reissues). What hurts Trust, to me, is its lack of theme or identity. It's just a collection of songs, as opposed to the previous three, and lacks even the folk rock/new wave identity of his first. But we're talking four out of five staby blasmo
Of course, it means I'm listening to this all day tomorrow at work, just to check my opinion's correct. "Strict Time" is also an Attraction showpiece.by blasmo
It may be the Attractions' best album, but only about half of Costello's songs on Trust stand up, for me: a lot of half thought out ideas and some blandness. "Fish and Chip Papers" isn't even up to B-side material. Costello has even admitted as much. The band, however, rocks out with less speed, but with as much ferocity and maybe more creativity. I can understand The Smiths box set, given their audience. I mean, only Depeche Mode has the same sort of fan support when it comes to buying anything within breathing distance of the band. But does it come with the equivalent of the surfboard you can buy with the deluxe Beach Boys Smile package? No. The best box set is still this, and I will win enough money to purchase it someday.by blasmo
There's no way you can post that without telling us what Can tapes she was purchasing at the time. I assume Flow Motion and Landed.by blasmo
I actually got better deals when they closed the store in OKC and moved the remaining inventory down to Norman. They had Criterion DVD's for almost 75% off, and when I paid the 5 bucks to upgrade my Borders' membership, they wound up about 80-90% off. I almost felt sorry for them. Bought the first four Ramones CD's new for 3 bucks apiece. (Oklahoma's heatwave and my electric bby blasmo
That has happened to me more than once. Some people just can't accept that people would, a.) help out just to be nice and, b.) be knowledgeable enough about music to provide decent info without *having* to know it.by blasmo
