ten minutes after I surfed to Slicing Up Eyeballs where this was coincidentally featured: Where are the berets? Maybe this is what electric violins are for?by M. Johnson
Thanks all! Kay, I would gladly read a collection of your posts to this board. I think it would be a rival to the best music writing/criticism I've encountered. And thanks for reminding me that I should finally, after twenty-one years, check out the stray Nick Drake tracks I've never heard, like "Winter Is Gone."by M. Johnson
Wanna go out walking in this new snowscape and listen to some suitable music. Without any further thought, the only two albums I can think to load are HOUNDS OF LOVE ON FIRE What would your choices be? It's nights like these I wish I listened to instrumental post-rock or something.by M. Johnson
"State Trooper," Cowboy Junkies "Know Your Rights," The Clash “Black Boys on Mopeds,” Sinéad O’Connor “Police and Thieves,” The Clash “Sound of Da Police,” KRS-One "Gun," John Cale "Sabotage," The Beastie Boysby M. Johnson
Given the chance, I'll die like a baby On some far away beach when the season's over Unlikely, I'll be remembered As the tide brushes sand in my eyes I'll drift away Cast up on a plateau with only one memory- a single syllableby M. Johnson
Joe Cocker? But Sting is okay, right?by M. Johnson

I have only ever worn a watch for running. I'm an anti-ornament guy too, Kay. I wear no jewelry, have never had any piercing or tattoo. I feel like such a freak. Just tonight I saw the hunched over silhouette of a phone-user and thought "when we use a palm-sized supercomputer we look most like Neanderthals." That's okay. I'm with this guy Post Edited (11by M. My best friend is a big fan of Doc. One time we were at a bar, talking music, and another patron chimed in with his story of meeting Doc- who told him of his recent D.U.I. We kept our mouths shut. St. James Hospitalby M. Johnson
But Sting's wankitude must be labored over! Lute, bedamned! The pic I posted is Sting at the OSCARS, playing the Hurdy Gurdy!by M. Johnson

MISS AMERICA is a great album, but her long belated (and sole followup) 2001's APARTMENT HUNTING is just okay. It's actually a soundtrack for a Canadian indie film. Read her wiki Page and imagine what might have been: Andy Partridge, Joe Boyd, Tom Waits, Morrissey. Sister to SCTV star, and buddies with Second City legendsby M. Johnson

Most of these problems were present in the Dewey Cox biopic too, but I think it was a better film for embracing them.by M. Johnson
Eleven of her albums, But not her great debut- THE KICK INSIDE. Her second best album, after HOUNDS OF LOVE.by M. Johnson
I got a sealed copy of Belly's STAR in 1999 for 2.99. Worth it for "Feed The Tree" plus the next best song: whatever it may have been. Helium is my favorite of forgotten bands, though Timony's MOUNTAINS is the best of her work before WILD FLAG.by M. Johnson
And few weeks ago I decided to hear what the kids are listening to nowadays, so I torrented Pitchfork's Top 100 tracks of 2013. The first hour I was listening to it I was just hemming and hawing and shaking my head. This is what people consider as the best of today's Rap? This sounds exactly like the EDM of a decade ago, and I don't even listen to EDM. And so on. Eventually it shby M. Johnson
I'm gonna stick up for her. There should have been an editor involved, so a lot of blame goes to them. She's young and dumb. So was I. Most writers are terrible at writing. The Internet is a medium great for the proliferation of poor writing, and SELF expression. Fifteen years of blogging and social media have just made things worse. (and better?)by M. Johnson
Remember Lou's dictum on how to write a great rock 'n' roll song: One chord is good. Two chords is pushing it. Three chords- well, you're getting into jazz territory then.by M. Johnson
But I forgot to invite anybody! Dooo Do do wah! -new thread: best musical allusions- "Candy says," "Fourth Of July" "Hitchhike," "There She Goes Again," "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out"by M. Johnson

Leon Payne wrote "You think I'm psycho don't you, mama." covered by Elvis on the Ryko issue of ALMOST BLUE. "Knoxville Girl" the Louvin Brothers. "King's Highway," Joe Henry "State Trooper," Bruce Springsteenby M. Johnson
After high school my best friend and I took separate paths. I got into Richard Thompson and he got into Steely Dan. When he told me, I said "that's cool. They're kinda like Fairport!" I was thinking of Steel Eye Span.by M. Johnson

My fave: "House Of Cards," Richard And Linda Thompsonby M. Johnson
Yerghh... My first instinct was HATFUL OF HOLLOW, but it's technically a compilation. It's almost impossible for me to choose between SANDINISTA! and HOUNDS OF LOVE. HOUNDS is my true love and is closer to my Romantic self-image, but SANDINISTA! is (accidentally) almost as evocative and enigmatic, it's breadth and diversity is probably better for me (mmm, green vegetables,) andby M. Grade 10 and beginning grade 11, small city Canadian east coast. The albums I listened to the most in 1989 were THE STONE ROSES The Arista re-release of Sarah Mclachlan's Touch. Cat Power covering "I Found A Reason." It sounded pretty enough the first few times I heard it, but it quickly became unlistenable. No idea why she abridged the lyric, the piano\voice arrangement sounds strident, rather than spare. I've heard about people using it as their wedding march. Eesh. Not the worst cover. But flat, unnecessary, and wrongly revered.by M. Johnson
