New GBV album came out today, only 3 months after last one! Well reviewed. I'm excited!by nosepail
Zwirn, I'm a Boston lifer, but am spending a month in Munich on vacation so cant help ya this time. In general, the best local club nowadays is The Sinclair in Harvard Square.by nosepail
It's 3 hot intelligent sisters with guitars. What's there to understand? Post Edited (07-11-17 16:14)by nosepail

No album with a song as cloying as "Everybody Hurts" can be a masterpiece. That one about Andy Kaufman is pretty nice though.by nosepail
Mekons - Memphis, Egyptby nosepail
Very sad. I saw them about a dozen times as a child, every time they came around Boston area. I loved them. I learned to play guitar jamming to Live at the Fillmore. They were the real deal. Those first 5 albums of theirs were almost uniformly excellent.by nosepail
It's sad. He had a powerful voice. However, give me the Cult - Love album any day of the week compared to any Soundgarden album.by nosepail
Fred Armisen, actor/comedian/musician Robert Pollard, Lord Of The Birdcage Guided By Voices, August By Cake Guided By Voices, The Bears For Lunch This sounds sketchy to me, Fred. I'd personally go: - Bee Thousand - Half Smiles of the Decomposed (highly under-rated last album before their original breakup) - Under the Bushes, Under the Starsby nosepail
I bought the CD today at the record store (swore I wouldnt, but couldnt resist). It's weird but doesnt suck. It's nice to hear someone other than Bob singing on several of the songs. For example, here's a charming tune which makes it easy to forget about Tobin:by nosepail
Those kids albums are pretty wonderful, particularly the science one. This is just flat out good rock music: Roy G Biv is also a jolly good tune. Made car rides with a young sun bearable. Post Edited (04-01-17 11:09)by nosepail
breno, is that real? If so...wow.by nosepail
Happy Birthday, Mark! I listened to Your Future, Our Clutter in your honor today. There are 5 better U2 albums than The Joshua Tree? I always that was one of the few really blockbuster albums that deserved it. Even my freakin' dad loved that album, and he likes no rock.by nosepail
I should love them more than I do. As a rockist, they're my kind of band. However, in two albums, I only hear one song which I really think is perfect: Cut You. Havent seen 'em live. I'd love to learn for myself.by nosepail
STEVE!!!!!!!!!!!by nosepail
I am much more likely to trust a man with a front passenger seat full of scratched CDs than a yuppy streaming his rock.by nosepail

Bob Pollard's 100th long-player album comes out in April! It is marketed under the Guided By Voices brand and called "Hiking Skin". I didnt give up on him until his 98th. I might sit this one out too.by nosepail

+1 for Karn Evil 9 and Hoedown -8 for the keyb solo to Lucky Man Post Edited (12-09-16 13:40)by nosepail
Simple fact. There arent 50 great Christmas songs so debating the list is a little unfruitful. Listen to a few of the classic carols and tunes (stuff from the 50's is the best in my opinion), and if you need something more modern, I recommend you load up the 200 CD changer with: ) ) Nuff said. Happy Thanksgiving, y'allby nosepail

God rest his soul. To my knowledge, I had never heard a Leonard Cohen song until he died, including Hallelujah. This week, I heard it about 12 times on NPR, Margo Price opened her live show here in Boston, and then SNL opened up with Kate McKinnon singing it. Its time to finally dip in. Which are the essential albums? Post Edited (11-13-16 18:50)by nosepail
Rock bottom for American culture, progress, democracy, the world. He has debased our culture in the span of one year worse than any person perhaps in the history of the United States. And yet, there he is: President Trump. 49% of the people want him. Hilary said the only gracious thing one can possibly say: "We owe him an open mind, the chance to lead."
