So what you're saying is that Barthes is the literary equivalent of the NY Yankees.by diskojoe
I have to agree w/Mr. Fab & I would also say that I prefer this song to "Sister Ray", especially for that moment.by diskojoe
You can find more info about the Brotherhood of Lizards tour at Martin Newell's website:by diskojoe
How about the Ramones are plumbers & they ride around a van w/a big spigot on the top, like Joe Peschi's in Easy Money. They get hired by said fat society lady to fix a minor leak & they screw it all up. Joey's all tangled up in pipes, Johnny catches Dee Dee pocketing the silverware & when the society couple turn on their new TV........by diskojoe
I must confess that I thought of having a beard w/o a mustache.by diskojoe
Just like Erik and Blotto are inextricably in my little mind also.by diskojoe
Funny you should mention that question, since I just bought the first 2 volumes of the Three Stooges' shorts that Sony Pictures has put out. They actually restored the footage, making them look like Ansel Adams. I see a lot of similarities between the Three Stooges & The Ramones, with Johnny Ramone being the Moe Howard of the group & Joey and Dee Dee being the two Curlys. There'by diskojoe
Erik, I don't know if you saw today's (6/25) Zits strip today, so here it is: There seems to be more Manfred Mann fans around.by diskojoe
Hey, I might be a Sox Stooge, but you have to give props whenever due.by diskojoe

A friend of mine burned a copy of Buck Owens' 21 Number 1 Hits CD for me recently & I must admit that it was pretty good stuff. I thought I even heard a fuzztone on on of the songs. I also recommend the Godsin Brothers' The Sounds of Goodbye CD that came out on Big Beat in the UK a few years back. As for the Cards series, don't get that upset Erik. It's not as if it was thby diskojoe
It was you, breno. Anyway, congrats on the Cards almost sweeping the Sox. That LaRussa must be some kinda genius.by diskojoe
There was actually a band named Cock Robin around in Southern CA in the '70s that featured Glenn Campbell, an ex-member of the Misunderstood (not the other one), which I read about in Ugly Things.by diskojoe
H.L. Mencken & anybody who started a brewery such as Busch, Schlitz, etc.by diskojoe
I have that Wondermints album & I'll have to pull it out & play it one of these days. I like their version of "Oooo, Child" by the Five Stairsteps, as well as the ones mentions in the post. I haven't heard if they stopped touring w/Brian Wilson to put out anything new lately.by diskojoe
Props to the Cardinals, then, a worthy foe indeed.by diskojoe
I dunno Erik, Wakefield's pitching tonight. As much as I like him, he can either be very, very good or bloody horrible, just like the 'Mats were from what I heard (judging from the 7th inning, it looks like the latter).by diskojoe
I'm shocked to discover that I actually own 6 albums on this list. Also, isn't Car Wheels on a Gravel Road one of the fave raves of one of our fellow correspondents? (cue sound of running footsteps to bomb shelter to escape wrath of said correspendent)by diskojoe
Ha, Ha, very funny, Erik. It's rather joyfully & pleasantly annoying to have you think that I'm the #1 Manfred Mann fan. In fact, I own 3 Manfred Mann CDs, as opposed to 30+ Kinks CDs. Also, recently, I was @ Mystery Train in Gloucester when I saw a copy of the EMI Years box set & you would be utterly horrified & shocked to know that I DID NOT BUY IT! P.S.: I suspect thatby diskojoe
That has to be may favorite opening line in a song.by diskojoe
I only wish that Red & Johnny Most were around to witness it.by diskojoe
Thanks Nile, I appreciate it.by diskojoe
STEVE, that reminds me of the time I had to buy one of those things & the only ones I could find were the 6-disc players, one of which I bought & gave me many problems. I ended up giving it away & bought a single play CD player through Amazon.by diskojoe
I like the version of "Bolero" w/lyrics that appeared on Albert Brooks' A Star is Bought.by diskojoe
Yes, they did & here's the video to prove it:by diskojoe

"No Good To Cry" by the Wildweeds is one of the songs on a Sundazed comp called Don't Press Your Luck that I found in the (greatly reduced) CD bins of my local Borders.by diskojoe
Lemme give this a go: diskojoe, born on Bloomsday the same yr. John Glenn went into orbit (1st time around), possesses enough CDs to stock a radio station, born & raised in the Witch City, USA, sign: Neon; was thanked in Doug Hinman Kinks book; maintains that "Help You Ann" by the Lyres is the best song ever of the '80s; last CDs purchaed (all in the same batch): Consolers ofby diskojoe
From the musty files dept., how about "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" by Gene Pitney?by diskojoe
