How about Manfred Mann? Hey, Erik, glad to have you back. I was wondering what happened to you.by diskojoe
I've always found that the Ramones & the early Beach Boys go good togetherby diskojoe
I think my introduction song as I step out of the plate in Fenway would be "Till the End of the Day" by the Kinks.by diskojoe
After nearly 30 years, I finally made the plunge & picked up a copy of the Buzzcocks' Singles Going Steady & I'm enjoying it so far. Short, sharp & sweet.by diskojoe
My favorite Elton John song from those years when I was a small lad was "Bennie & The Jets".by diskojoe
Whadda mean in St. Lou, it looks like Brady's out for the year. Oh well, there's always the Red Sox.by diskojoe
For me, the last purely happy song is Otis Reddings' version of "Merry Christmas Baby", with the M.G.'s backing him up.by diskojoe
Don't forget that he contributed two songs for Elvis, "Guitar Man" & "US Male"by diskojoe
Speaking of the Who, it's going to be 30 years since Moonie's death on Sept. 7.by diskojoe
I had a couple of Heinkens & pretzel rods watching a Martin Newell thingie on his hometown of Wivenhoe & an episiode of SCTV on my $37 home theatre tonight.by diskojoe
I went w/Barrence Whitfield to see Brian Wilson's SMiLE in Boston on October 2004. We bumped into Brett Milano of the Boston Phoenix & author of Vinyl Junkies and The Sound of Our Town & also one of the band members, Nelson Bragg, who was originally from the North Shore (MA) area. Before the concert started, Barrence had to take a whizz break & when he came back, he said he bumpeby diskojoe
Ray Davies at the Old South Meeting House, Boston, May, 1998. He was originally supposed to appear at the Borders downtown to promote the Storytellers CD, but had to move across the street due to the number of people who showed up. He played for an hour, and at one point, he looked around the colonial interior and said, "I shall reclaim this building for Britain". Cost: freeby diskojoe
Does Brandon Cruz, the Courtship of Eddie's Father guy, still front The Dead Kennedys?by diskojoe
Speaking of Boston, I thought at first that the new guy was Matthew Sweet, not Michael Sweet from Stryper. As the 21st Century cliche goes, "My bad".by diskojoe
I know I said this in a prior post, but my favorite line in a TP review is when Ira called a Motorhead album "Sheer Shakespere in a Chevy"by diskojoe
Somebody must express a contrary opinion on this thread & what better way to express it with "Sport (The Odd Boy)" by the Bonzosby diskojoe
Erik, both George Fame ("Yeh, Yeh", "Bonnie & Clyde")& Cliff Richards ("T's So Funny Why We Don't Talk Anymore")had big hits here in the US. There have been periods in pop history where being British was an advantage (the "British Invasions" of ca. 1964 & 1984). I think that some of the reasons why British bands failed in the US may noby diskojoe
There was a tape of the original version of the Neats' "Do The Things You Want To Do" that was played at the Salem State College (MA) radio station which I loved. I was very disappointed w/the version that came out, which polished the rough edges out. Another couple of fave rave Bosstown rarities is the live acoustic version of "Roadrunner" where Jonathan describes the rby diskojoe
Don't forget the Stop & Shop, drivin' by w/the radio on.by diskojoe
The Who Sell Out is way better than Tommy. Also, I would be remiss in not mentioning another great Kinks concept album, the best one of them all, the Village Green Preservation Society.by diskojoe
Being the big Manfred Mann, erm, Kinks fan that I am, I would have to add Arthur, Preservation (the Boston Rock Opera did a great version live a few yrs. ago) & Soap Opera ADDITION: Here's a clip of Soap Opera performed live in '75 & I now noticed that the whole concert has been posted on YouTube, yea! Erik, I think that you probably would have better memories of that class if you translated stuff like this instead of Proust: P.S.: I noticed that there were no almost but not quite making sense missives from STEVE this past weekend.by diskojoe
That song brings me back to the summer of '79, where it was played constantly on either WBCN or the Salem State College radio station while doing a summer job @ a city park. Brings back Proustian memories, to add to the over-educated vibe.by diskojoe
It's very unexpected & pleasing for Mr. Solzhenitsyn to be paid tribute here.by diskojoe
Well breno, at least it wasn't the deluxe version of that album by Lucinda Williams you always go on about, Truck Wheels on The Macadam Road or something like that.by diskojoe

Erik, too bad about the Ramones, but since you dig Blotto & the Red Sox, well 2 out of 3 ain't bad!by diskojoe
I'm also reminded of Elvis Costello's Punch The Clock, which had plenty of horns.by diskojoe
Here's one that's always p***sed me off: In "Nashville Cats", John Sebastian states that Sun Records came from Nashville, not Memphis.by diskojoe
It looks like old Professor Basher got some things wrong, especially the date of Jeath: It's still one of fave rave Lowe songs.by diskojoe
