Seeing how angrily Rat reacted to the makers of the recent documentary is what makes his return so surprising. So, with Brian James back, this means The Captain has to move to Bass. np:: MGs - Getting into Knivesby Paganizer

For the '78 tour Malcolm thought it wisest to play off-track motels in the bible belt as it would be more scandalous to piss off rednecks than meet-up with actual fans. That Svengali was all fluff and contrivance, little substance. The Go-Gos doc/Weidlin misrepresented Lydon's tour-end comment, as have many. Lydon wasn't asking the audience if they felt cheated, he was talking aby Paganizer

Steve Priest [1948-2020] I rediscovered Sweet sometime last year, and that led to digging up interviews with bassist Priest. The cut-up of the band, he was the one that pushed them toward glam while simultaneously presenting it as a send-up. Just about any live interview entertains and any live vid demonstrates his talent within the band (writing/singing/bass). Sweet came to public awareneby Paganizer
Going over the releases of 2020 so far. I'm ignoring the disappointments, of which there were also many, and focusing on the good news, as we brace for the tensest two months in our history. Best Coast - Always Tommorow / Yes they rarely miss, but some of this is so good it brings tears. I can't think of an artist in the US who has the status Lightfoot has to Canadians. And on a similar note: Burton Cummings. Oh Canada, oh but you're weird and wonderful. Some artists just get inspired to revisit/redux. a few come to mind, but Bowie made the excellent John, I'm Only Dancing with the Spiders right as Ziggy entered stores. But when he worked it up with his Aladdin Sane band months later, he liked that version better and recorded it. Then he had RCA pull the Ziggy Version and replace it with the Sax Version using the same cat#, so you had to dby Paganizer
I hear something new in the new one each spin. So, I was actually listening to it and sorta fretting over the lyric content when I got the news and it r e a l l y freaked me out for a few hours. Are you counting people like Wendy Carlos? Joan Baez? Melanie Safka? Did Wanda Jackson do one or two all by herself - maybe they were singles? Since Dolly can play a dozen instruments, maybe she has I feel like Rebecca Gates told me she was working on one but I'm not sure which or the results There might be some Quasi tracks that Janet made solo Billy Corgan? np::Veby Paganizer
I'm sure I've mentioned how much I like Soul (and Shook Down, while we're at it), but the Mehr book (that I recently finished) helped me figure out why, and for those reasons I ponied up. I think I saw that tour as well. That was the one where Paul got distracted by moths on stage and dropped the songs to run around catching them ... with his mouth.by Paganizer
I think there was an earlier thread If so, I probably said I pared down about 10yrs back and got rid of a couple hundred titles. I almost never go back more than 5yrs now - too much to hear. I put a cassette deck n my SUV though so I can go back to those titles [500 is too much to track down in digital format and half were made by my close, departed collector frend, in his handwriting]by Paganizer

I also "got" the Mountain Goats. Ignoring the half that didn't impress, the rest are great. Again, the best trax are deeper. New Sebadoh is better than the previous couple. New Purple Mountains is amazing.by Paganizer
Listened to BR - Age of Unreason again and liked several tracks this time, esp End of History. Also like Big Black Dog into Downfalling. It's an LP about Trump, yet not particularly insightful - just the same things all of us are walking around saying. That's certainly their wheelhouse. But the triple-guitar attack is so smoothed that it sounds like one, and Graffin's vox are so uby Paganizer
I have been so excited by the original Meat Puppets reunion and quality of new LP that most else has taken lower queue except for: Deerhunter - Why Hasn't Everything > already classic Mould - Sunshine Rock > another home run PUP - Morbid Stuff > finally one form these guys that earwormed me still absorbing: Swervedriver new one Wand - new one hasn't quite bowled me likeby Paganizer

I had only heard Setting Sons, Sound Affects and their related singles for many years, but still found The Gift in the same ballpark. However the production was very compressed and there is much reliance on the horn section. The writing is still great (even if Weller's next step is written), and with different production it may have had more, erm, snap. I made two discoveries: *Cover arby Paganizer
Back then it was hard in the US to even know about the great singles until SNAP came out. In '97 the singles comp was finally released . OK, I quite easily found my vinyl of GIFT and it's in the order. It's been years for this one. BTW - the Jam movie from a couple years ago was great.by Paganizer
That Mats record is great. Listened to it twice in a row this year and was bowled. Maybe by the "sharp-tongued wordplay and idiosyncratic musical structures".* It has aged the best. Have been reading the Mats bio as a result. Elsewhere I have probably posted an '89 list. Hard to whittle it to just 10. I wouldn't say it was when music peaked for me - I have that excitement evby Paganizer
Bad list IMO too. Great year though. Two of those are still on my rotation for the year. SPIN called random mom-pops and asked whoever answered the phone "tell me a list of indies". NP:: Versus - Ex Nihilo Post Edited (06-16-19 15:57)by Paganizer
