I think Siren is their best overall album in terms of song quality, listen-ability, and propulsiveness, but Stranded and Country Life come really close. Their first two are great, but I don't like For Your Pleasure as much as a lot of people. There are some boring bits in the longer songs. The last three are best represented by a great singles collection and all of Avalon, which does work asby blasmo
I understand this is how the Thirty Years' War started. But I heard that in the same interview.by blasmo
Paganizer, that was fucking awesome. Damned fine job.by blasmo
Yeah, that's horrible when it happens. I've had that happen a couple of times in the last month, and one was someone I'd been actively looking for on Facebook, only to find a Memorial page when I finally tried an alternate spelling of her first name. Sorry for your loss, sir. You're right about the instant internet giving you stuff you did not want to know about faster thanby blasmo
My friends and I used to play "Six Degrees of Peter Buck".by blasmo
No one snorked or belched like him. Even with a saxophone, the snorks came through.by blasmo
Also Dos Passos. Re-reading the USA Trilogy. Not the orig., with the illustrations, but the all-in-one Lib. of Congress edition.by blasmo
"Why do you only want to talk about Songs for Drella, Elmo?"by blasmo
I really look forward to these, since I have a difficult time keeping up with what's new and great and good, and I respect everyone's opinion on here enough to purchase stuff just based on recommendations.by blasmo
Here's Kirsty lip-syncing "Terry", with Lemmy from Motorhead faking the guitar behind her.by blasmo
Stole it, too. Amazing, amazing woman. Michael, what's your Facebook moniker? It'd be nice to be Facebook friends with anyone on here. Mine's David Murphy, and I have a picture of '80s Robot as my profile pic, along with Brad's prose.by blasmo
Zappa would have been ambassador, if Havel had his way.by blasmo
Wow. I read that book, too. There was also a regional TV show that featured this stuff, starring a guy who looked like a cross between Dennis De Young and that guy who painted all the "happy, fluffy clouds". I saw Erasure on the Abba-esque tour in St. Louis, and once in Dallas at a gay club, the name of which I can't recall, but it would have been around 1989. Happiest concerts eby blasmo
Then you're just feeling nostalgic for that gay sound. Eventually, that sound will come back in a more "less gay, but more Gay" version, starting with an Old Navy ad. And then you can kill your parents over and over again to that sweet sound. On a slightly serious note, I grew up and still live in Oklahoma. Norman now, but Yukon for my childhood. We moved there when I was 7, and mby blasmo
A *lot* of former pop artists have headed over to the country charts, since that's the only place they can sell stuff, these days: Bon Jovi, Jewel, Darius Rucker (whose country stuff isn't that bad, actually), and John Waite among them. Gotta go where the money is.by blasmo
This marks the first time that I'm okay with everyone who's getting in. GNR and the RHCP are the ones I have problems with, but as long as that asshat band Bon Jovi doesn't get in, I'm fine with those two. Hell, I still listen to Freaky Styley quite a bit.by blasmo
I can't split 'em. Love them both, for very different reasons.by blasmo
"Now I want to hear Nimoy doing karaoke to Tin Machine. Sorta." Awesome.by blasmo
Lifes Rich Pageant has certainly had a critical resurgence. But the list is understandable, I mean, what out today comes close to What's Going On? or Quadrophenia? Nice to see Mickey Newbury get some attention. That's a serious question, by the way.by blasmo
The Family had to do the same thing when they got back together earlier this year: FDeluxe. I won the new Time (hell, yes, they're The Time) CD a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had the chance to pick it up yet. Let's just say that Prince can be a major pain in the ass, and leave it at that.by blasmo
I think Worm is both hilarious and hilariously bad, which I think was what was intended. Amanda Donahoe was amazing back then. (and isn't bad now) Post Edited (11-29-11 19:15)by blasmo
If there isn't a commercial featuring the real Iggy crawling over a huge pile of these, then an advertising opportunity has been missed.by blasmo
I love Russell's stuff. Altered States is one of my favorite films, and there's one he made for the BBC called Song of Summer that is brilliant. A lot of the stuff he did for Omnibus is better than his films. I think Tommy's hilarious.by blasmo
I watched every episode of Community over the weekend. Might be the greatest thing ever, esp. this sequence, which might work out of context.by blasmo
Was going to a party, so I made a mix list on iTunes: 7 hours long, since I filled it without checking. Decided I was too tired to go, so now I'm listening to it. Not bad at all. Starts with some Black Dynamite soundtrack stuff and ends with the long version of "Sweet Jane".by blasmo
Probably "Properties of Propaganda (Fuk This Shit On Up)" off Monkey.by blasmo
I hope Fishbone can ride this to a Top 10 single.by blasmo
Agreed that Reality was the end of their really good stuff, but Monkey and Chim Chim have at least 3-4 decent songs on them. Truth and Soul is their best overall album, but Reality kicks ass, too.by blasmo
I can't believe they never crossed over. It broke me when Reality of My... didn't sell a kazillion copies. Wonderful, at times brilliant band.by blasmo
I've seen him 4-5 times, and he's fantastic each time -- once was The Plimsouls Reunion, which was great. Very personable, nice guy. He has been recently playing with a band that includes Steve Goulding, from The Rumour and Mekons.by blasmo
