The answer finally popped up recently. The band was Sinking Ships and the song is Strangers (1980). The comments have a little more info here.by totaji

Most think it was too small or too local or an old band of the bros themselves. There is nothing on the net about it so only someone who had heard it in a real life context might know it. No big deal though. Just sort ofby totaji

I’m appreciating your guy’s effort. I threw punk out there but yeah it could be post punk, power pop, goth rock (strong goth vibes), etc. Michael, people are speculating it was a no name local act or even music from the brothers predating BOC.by totaji

The song starts at 1:22:43. The video should start at this song. This is a DJ set put out last weekend by Boards of Canada. It mixes their sounds with some pretty cool old tunes, most of which is extremely obscure. This song sounds like The Damned but I am pretty sure it isn't them. They almost sound American to me. Nobody can figure out the tune where these things are discussed. I have gby totaji
All that music is still out there to be had. And yes its a little more difficult to find but if you google the artist, album and blogspot, rar or zip after it, you shouldn't have trouble. Also the bigger music download blog sites have tons of stuff. I just downloaded Slovenly's catalogue within 2 minutes of reading your post. On a side note I stayed pretty far away from alot of the moreby totaji
If you follow what I said, I was making a careful distinction between the music and the theatrics. I think that distinction was lost on you. The Sex Pistols literally brought nothing new to punk music, they just amped up the theatrics (including lyrics.) Even now it all seems quaint to what hip-hop has done, from NEA to the ones you mentioned.by totaji
And really, American punk was about musical innovation, whereas British punk was about the theatrics. Alot of it was just aping what the Americans had already done musically. I think Post Punk is where they really started innovating. Joy Division is much more important, innovative, interesting, etc than the Sex Pistols were (musically). Lets be frank, Joy Division is still listened to by a widerby totaji
Weller just doesn't have the voice to make the Style Council work in my opinion. It's like Johnny Lydon with Sade's band. I like the spirit behind it though. Here is a link if you wanna preview The Jam comp, this site has a Style Council page as well.by totaji
Soundgarden - Ultramega OK Janes Addiction - First album (Its painful how much I love this album but can't get into the rest. Of course Nothing Shocking had a couple of good tunes as well but meh.) White Zombie - Make Them Die Slowly Metallica - Master of Puppets (I likish the two before it but this is the only one I crave to hear. Possibly the best thrash metal album, one of the least interby totaji
Haha yeah I frequent that site. I know exactly what you mean. I don’t even bother with those types of reviews. Side note: I keep seeing that new Bjork album cover in social media and it’s freaking me out lol.by totaji
I saw Lil Uzi is up for best new artist. I am surprised because he has been around awhile. He is definitely worth checking out. He's a freaky little dude but makes excellent music. Guys like him, the late Lil Peep, were ushering in some pretty cool rap/emo/trap hybrid music that you would never think to call it that from just a random listen. It just sounds good.by totaji
Haha, I won't ask. I guess he gets lumped in with white guys like Ariel Pink and Neon Indian. Here is the lead single off his most recent album:by totaji
I highly recommend checking out Chaz Bundick's work. Toro y moi has been a large influence over the last decade, practically starting the chillwave movement which is essentially psychedelic pop. This year he put out a psych rock album called Chaz meets the Mattsons 2. Very important modern artist.by totaji
There are strains of it that are going through an underground popularity. Search the tag Hardvapour on bandcamp and you come up with albums like this: Krokodil Hunter on the Antifur label.by totaji
The album with they did with Wavves - No Life for Me is probably my fave since their self-titled. It has more in common with their charming lo-fi roots. The drumless tune Nothing Hurts is one of their best in my opinion. It would have fit right in with Turning On. Whats a great song on their new one? I flipped through it and nothing stuck out.by totaji
And here is a site if you want to listen to it before you purchase.by totaji
Ghostly has Tycho on it and is a pretty cool label. I have Psychic 9-5 Club and have listened a few times but it never did anything for me. It was pretty forgetable so I never delved further. No likey Tycho?by totaji
Bowie, Vega, Cohen...fuck fuck fuckby totaji
How much money could Ginn be making off the SST catalogue? It would be much more profitable to sell everything back to the original artists for a cheap price or load them all up on Bandcamp and give the artists their cut. Although that could get murky I guess.by totaji

The Wolf on St. Mark's Place The Dolls scene is in the beginning of the show so you can watch it and then turn it off. Having read a ton of biographies from the era, I got all the references but the show really did nothing for me other than reinforced the idea that Scorsese is indeed jumping the shark. He needs a new angle on the powerful men are garbage worldview he has (and I share.) Theby totaji
The recording is rough but Nico has a live version of Heroes that I love. Its really rockin' though. On paper its weird but it just works. 2 of my favorite covers that Bowie did are his version of Growin' Up and Sorrow. Both are excellent. The rest of Pin-Ups is sort of weak. Here Comes The Night is such an amazing song but I think he over does it. It just doesn't work. Same withby totaji

Did you give Future a try. He had a huge year and Christgau loved DS2.by totaji
Out of Step - Minor Threat Not Just Boys Fun - 7 Seconds New Direction - Gorilla Biscuits Better Than You - GB Flame Still Burns - Youth of Today and a million other hardcore songs. Although they were as much pro-positive scene as anti-scene.by totaji
Worst: You Give Love A Bad Name. I'd rather have When the Children Cry, Don't Want to Miss a Thing and I Remember You on rotation for several hours than that song once.by totaji
Don't get me wrong, I respect Jovi's acumen and overall success. His music has no spirit and I firmly sit with Michael at his council of loathe.by totaji
I love seeing Shout At The Devil so highly rated on that list. Its definitely one of the best Hair Metal albums. Having G'N'R "transcend the form" is cheating. If G'n'R transcend it than Bon Jovi should do the opposite.by totaji
