Larry Tamblyn of The Standells has just passed away:by diskojoe
The latest issue of Shindig! Magazine has a cover story about the Standells, which includes, naturally, their appearance in The Munsters.by diskojoe
I think that the first 3 albums are masterpieces, the next 4 somewhat flawed but OK & the rest best heard on compilations/box sets. Any love, however, for I'TS ALIVE, the bizarro version of Frampton Comes Alive?by diskojoe
Here's that Bonzo Dog song: The Bride Stripped Bare (By Batchelors) Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band So the boys got together and formed a band...uh, fate played the Straight man, and since then they've never looked back... "Bob Seger hates the music he made before 1975 and won't allow most of it to be legally released." Well this just came out: Speaking of Bob Seger, I recently disposed of a record collection that my nephew got for me from an abandoned storage unit. There were quite a few Bob Seger records. I managed to get something from the pre-Night Moves albums & had to dispose the laterby diskojoe
Here's a YouTube link for some out takes of the Bonzos' MMT appearance which didn't show up in the DVD version:by diskojoe
The latest issue of Ugly Things actually has an interview of Pat Priest, the second Marilyn Munster by Greg Prevost, as well as Standell Larry Tamblyn's memories of being on that Munsters episode.by diskojoe
I drove by a local theater today which advertised a Fleetwood Mac tribute band called Tusk which is playing tonight. Perhaps Mr. Buckingham can find employment w/themby diskojoe
It was actually free! I already have 3 copies (box set, deluxe version, super deluxe version), so I gave it to a friendby diskojoe
Speaking of the VU, my 1st copy of the 1st album was purchased in a Cambridge, MA record store in 1981. It was in pretty beat condition. Recently I attended a recycling event where you could pick up books & other media for free. I actually found a still sealed copy of the 1st VU album there.by diskojoe
Speaking of documentaries relative to TP, last night I saw one called Boys From Nowhere that was about the bands that played the Rat in Boston in the late '70s, focusing on The Real Kids, Nervous Eaters, Willie Alexander, DMZ & The Neighborhoods. After the movie played, The Nervous Eaters & Willie Alexander did short sets.by diskojoe
I wonder who is the biggest sucker, the person who buys a used copy of Frampton Comes Alive or the person who buys a new copyone $30 or so dollars? Another question I have is how is the vinyl quality on the reissues? I believe that one reason why vinyl went away for a while was the horrible quality of the vinyl used in the 70s-80s, especially during the energy crises.by diskojoe
There's also the MORE MODERN CLASSICS compilation that spans the period from 1996 to about 2014by diskojoe

I was wondering if the original TP T-shirt (w/Bonzo waiving the Union Jack) could be reissued. I have the one that's currently available, but I would like the original.by diskojoe

Yes, their singles were good to excellent & worth looking up (there's a recent CD comp that just came out). Also, they were discovered & managed by Andrew Loog Oldham & even appeared on Shindig, as shown by the following:by diskojoe
This was originally posted on Martin Newell's message board the Karma Scene by Martin & I'm posting it here on the off chance that a TPer or lurker may have this item in question: "Hello music lovers I need to borrow a good cassette copy of In The Golden Autumn. (August 1983) This is because I need to digitise it to Wav Files for a forthcoming re-release. The actual masterby diskojoe
I did re-watch Help! this past weekend & I also noticed that he was interviewed in the latest MOJO about the play based on In His Own Write.by diskojoe
"Makes me wonder what kind of slackers the fathers of Cale & McCartney were, because I thought by that time all able bodied young men in the UK were supposed to be off in Tunisia duking it out with Rommel!" I believe that Sir Paul's dad was in the cotton business in Liverpool & was too old for active service, while John Cale's dad was a coal miner in Wales, which wasby diskojoe

Chrysler did have an optional record player for their cars in the 1950sby diskojoe
A sad loss. I had the pleasure of seeing him & the MG's play in a Blues Festival here in the Witch City (Salem, MA) back in 1999. It's amazing that he, as well as the rest of Booker T. & MGs, played on virtually 99% of Stax Records' output from 1962-71.by diskojoe
The Beatles were thinking of making Sgt. Pepper a concept album about their childhoods, hence the recording of "Penny Lane"/Strawberry Fields Forever", but they were pressured to release those songs as a single, so that concept went by the wayside.by diskojoe

The Klassic Kinks Album Trilogy: - Face to Face - Something Else - Village Green Preservation Societyby diskojoe
The movie came out in England around 2008. There was a bit of press about it in Uncut & MOJO. It did get positive reviews in the UK. I don't know if it's available on DVD here.by diskojoe
I noticed this today: Not only are they playing here in Salem, MA, but the venue was the auditorium of the parochial school I went to for 9 yrs., which is mind-blowing.by diskojoe
This is excellent news & I can't wait to get it. For those of you who are interested, here's the link to Martin Newell's website:by diskojoe
