Dunno, but I'd be interested to know how they'd get MP3s onto the Flexidisc.by Brother JB
And that's why I love it so.by Brother JB
Anyone seen this book yet? Just bought this and it's fab. Essentially, it's raw material from the punk era -- flyers, set lists, zines, odd ephemera like GG Allin's suicide press release, etc. wrapped by some really cool essays. Absolutely fascinating stuff and beautifully done Post Edited (07-12-10 21:17)by Brother JB
I like Nick Drake as much as the next guy, but in a commercial context I always find his music cloying and precious. Of course, he didn't make his music for that purpose, so it ain't his fault.by Brother JB

Oh yeah, the Paybacks are a guaranteed good time. Wendy Case is one of the all time great rock chicks. There's nothin' better than some kickass Detroit RnR.....by Brother JB
Yep - that's the show I was at. Paybacks also on that bill. Great afternoon out!by Brother JB
Saw 'em a few years back at SXSW and they kicked my ass. Didn't expect that at all. Sheer energy and great songs. I'll pick this one up fer sure.by Brother JB

While "Cut the Crap" has gotten no better to my ears over the years, live stuff from the Clash Mark II era is actually pretty good. I saw 'em live during this time and there are also some good bootlegs from the era. Something happened when they got in the studio, but they had the raw material for a halfway decent album. Didn't work out that way, alas.by Brother JB
Kinda reminds me of when I heard "London Calling" being used to sell Jaguars.by Brother JB

1. Does the Poconos have a lower east side? 2. Shame on you for besmirching an NYC thread with "Go Red Sox!" May the ghost of Bucky Dent haunt you in your sleep.by Brother JB
I'm a NY'er born and bred. Spent my formative years at Sounds on St Marks and seein' shows @ the Ritz and Max's. When I was a kid, NYC r&r was straight up badass. it was Johnny & The Heartbreakers, the Ramones, The Senders, Jayne County. And Brooklyn was *real* badass. that's where guys liked to fight. And where girls like to fight. And it's where tby Brother JB
namechecking TP or Creem are shorthands for "I hearken back to the days when music writing mattered", so I'm cool with that. of course, serious writing about music was way more interesting back in the days when the acts themselves didn't take themselves so seriously. Reading scholarly expositions about bands like the Ramones or Black Oak Arkansas was entertaining. readingby Brother JB
Been on a big Nomads kick of late. Their stuff is goin' down real nice. Also, been digging back through one of my fave 80's bands, The Inmates. Got the Godfathers on deck for the same treatment. And, when I'm driving, I keep popping Wolfmother in. That's a band that keeps getting better & better.by Brother JB

Much like Quadrophenia, I will never, ever tire of Exile. It's a stone cold masterwork. "Torn and Frayed" may be, for me at least, the absolute peak of the Stone's output. As for the bonus tracks, Plundered My Soul is pretty nifty, as is the proto-Tumbling Dice track "Good Time Woman". Got the bonus tracks on a separate disk for $10 at Target, btw.by Brother JB
The Clash is my fave band of all time and I've always considered London Calling their best record. That said, I'm far more likely to pull out Give Em Enough Rope these days than LC. It's just more immediate, it rocks harder and hits me the right way. But that's my changing tastes, and says nothing about the brilliance of London Calling which is, let's face it, a mastby Brother JB
If you're pissin' those people off, you're doing something right. I hope their presence is met by a mass demonstration of metal horns from the assembled mourners. That would be a true honor to a great rocker's memory. Post Edited (05-21-10 16:03)by Brother JB
