Anyone into pub rock and pre punk scene? I talk about Ducks Deluxe,Kursaal flyers,Brinsley Scwartz,Bees make honey,Kilburn and the High roads, all these great british acts. Its important to recall the influence, of this tough-back to the basics music to the early punk rock explosion. And also Chiswick,''the natural home'' of pub rock and others' odd groups of these times.by brightspark
Shakin Street-Dictator Ross''the boss'' Funiccelo played for a while,there.Great stuff!by brightspark
Nice to recall the great Pete Ivers. One of the most educated persons in rock n roll, great showman and host and truly bizarre musician. His two albums in mid seventees, after leaving Beacon Street Union in whom played harmonica, are strange experimental expressions in free form rock.Along with Rodney Bingenhaimer, were the real contributors of the whole punk rock/new wave scene.by brightspark
Check out also ''Suburbia'', not for any artists, but as a fine plot-documentary movie of L.a punk life.See also Flea from Chilli Peppers, in his very youth playing in a ''nasty'' scene. Some others, with mainly new wave soundtracks-Modern Girls,The Last American Virgin,Valley girl and Blank Generation, this great punk chronicle.by brightspark
Split Enz,an important case-from Genesis like art rockers, with strange albums and complex songs to wonderfully fitted new wave poppers and later -why not?- 80s stadium pop stars. Mick Farren also from Deviants and Pink Fairies embraced the whole movement, added some agit politics to it,issued some fanzines but unfortunately didn't play in any band. The same can be told also for Mayo Tompson (by brightspark
Donkeys have a two cd compilation in the market, named ''television anarchy'',truly essential. As for the Scruffs ,one of the most exciting power rock bands of late seventees and ''meet the scruffs'' an ultimate best of.Really, where are they now?by brightspark
Paul Collin's Beat first album is one of my favourite power pop records with a tight punky edge.As for the Nerves, i think they had an album called Notre Demo'' or something like that...Also love the Plimsouls!by brightspark
Tremblers''twice nightly'' a true forgotten masterpiece.Great catchy songs, brilliant production, airy synths and arockabilly attitude all over the album.Much more better from what Peter Noone made with Hermits. Carmen Appice from Vanilla Fudge, had a hard rock-new wavy band in early eightees the DNA.I think they had two albums, the one i have is with a pretty kitsch album cover,by brightspark
Just remembered the Reneissance album of 1981''Camera Camera''.Got deep into new wave territory remaining the art rock feeling and the operetic vocals of Annie Haslam. Its a great album that doesn't sound as trying hard to be ''new rock'', although some of its productions techniques and effects are a bit dated.by brightspark
Jack Casady from Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna had a punk-new wave band called SVT.The classic''baby's got a heart of stone''is in the compilatiom''declaration of independents''.Svt are now legendary for their pure rock n roll shows and their only EP a collector's item. Don't forget also Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson. Both loved punk rock andby brightspark
One of the greatest reissues of the year, was a sci-fi masterpiece of late seventees named Zolar-x.This band could simply described as glam- rock due to their outer space make up and costumes, futuristic synths and a strange vision they had about reality.Listen closely, and you'll discover an amagalm between early hardcore punk(surprise),Floyd like progressive bridges and Sweet's metalliby brightspark
Skyhooks were great satirists of pop culture and clever musicians.Oh, how i love their ''Ego is not a dirty word '' album...by brightspark
Ok,Ihave some information about some of the bands, xtian5 wrote about. Elektriks-they had two albums in 1981 and 1983.The first one is a terrific piece of catchy punky power pop , if you find it grab it.The second,is moving into a synth- based sound, has some really good songs and produced by Lance Quinn and Tony Bongiovi-great new yorkers producers. No Dice-this is a special british band, had moreby brightspark
There was a band in early eightees, named Raf.Possibly it was english, had two albums of power pop-atmospheric new wave in A and M and no connection with the Brian Eno and Judy Nylon single''Raf''.Isearched everywhere not finding any information about the band, and id like someone to inform me.It was a really exciting, catcy new wave group.thanks!by brightspark
Shirts first album is a lost ''art punk '' classic.Incredible songs with hooks, energy, cocky attitude and weird lyrics.I would tell that the major influence to them were the Tubes, art rock and definitely not classic punk.Ahead of their time, are only remembered for Annie Goden and her talented carrere. They are still alive, without Annie, but with two new female singers and prepareby brightspark
NY late seventies scene had a great totally obscure band named Pet Clams.Managed and produced by legendary punk mentor Hilly Cristal, cut one album of street new wavish rock ,played several gigs in CBGBs and flashed with their perfect musicanship. From then extremely forgotten, are only ''remembered'' for the passionate harsh singing of singer Rich Gelbsteinand and the funny-disby brightspark
If anyone can help me to have a cd -r copy of the album,it would be very kind.I' m looking for an album copy a lot of time, and i can't stand anymore. Thanks!by brightspark
