This is exciting! I'm tempted to follow this tour like a hippie!by DuckRabbit
I miss Green On Red, but I'm comforted by my enjoyment of Chuck Phrophet's solo career. I find him an especially engaging live performer!by DuckRabbit
I was reminded of this thread just now when I was scrolling through old social media posts by a band (Tail Light Rebellion) that's playing tonight (Saturday, 9-28-24) at Duck-Rabbit Brewery (Farmville NC) and saw that they were once on a bill with Split Lip Rayfield! I think they may fit in the "Psycho-Americana" category (and I think they're going to be a lot of fun!). .by DuckRabbit
I love it! I've never yet been disappointed by Barrence Whitfield! If something like this comes up again, I suggest the band Scroat Belly or another including members of that band, Split Lip Rayfield.by DuckRabbit
It looks like that previous thread also didn't mention _Down In Bermuda_ by Jonathan Richman.by DuckRabbit
I nominate Ezra Furman - Perpetual Motion Peopleby DuckRabbit
My wife and I saw this show when it came through Durham. For some reason we had crazy-good seats (5th row center), but that turned out to be a detriment, I think. The English Beat was plenty of fun, but not what they were when saw them 10 years ago at a club show in Carrboro. Adam Ant made me quite sad, I'm afraid. From our great seats, we had clear views of every wince (accompanying eveby DuckRabbit
My wife and I have tickets for the Raleigh show. See you there!by DuckRabbit

His lyrics are great, but but his vocal delivery is definitely an important part of the reason I love Stan Ridgeway! I like the music, too!by DuckRabbit
I love Hunters & Collectors, but as a blanket statement, that's pretty hard to swallow. I've loved songs in languages that I don't understand! Also, I'm pretty sure I couldn't enjoy The Babys as much as I do if I thought lyrics were most important (to pick the first example that springs to mind)!by DuckRabbit
My wife and I have tickets for the Durham show. When we saw it announced, our first thought was that DPAC seems like far too big a venue for this show. Still, I bet it's going to be fun. We saw the Wakeling led English Beat in the Cat's Cradle in Carrboro a few years ago and it was fantastic. Does anyone know if this is that version or the competing / alternate version? Next isby DuckRabbit
I'm surprised no one has yet Beat on the Brat.by DuckRabbit
Oops - I wrote mine before seeing your response MrFab. I really liked Kool Thing!by DuckRabbit
Sonic Youth and Chuck D on "Kool Thing" (about LL Cool J)by DuckRabbit
John Lydon and Afrika Bambaataa on "World Destruction" (Man, I love that song!)by DuckRabbit
Ouch. I hadn't heard that he died. That hurts.by DuckRabbit

Wow - this rather touches my heart. I wish I were going to be in NYC this weekend to look through those books. My book collection includes a volume from Warren Zevon's personal collection. It would be great to put a Tom Verlaine next to it!by DuckRabbit

Thanks for the show review! I've been excited for an opportunity to see IDLES, whose cds I very thoroughly enjoy. They played a club date within striking distance, but it was during the pandemic and I couldn't convince myself to go. Anyway, it was interesting to read impressions from someone who wasn't already a fan.by DuckRabbit
Sorry you missed him when he played in Austin. I agree with you that Machine Gun is special (I've had my copy of the cd since the early 90s!). Back then, my apartment-mate and I used to joke that we could play that cd loud if we wanted to scare the neighbors.by DuckRabbit
The Quietus I just learned that Peter Brotzmann (saxophone) has died. To my ears / in my world, he was a giant. I am grateful that I got to see him play several times over the years. I will miss him tremendously.by DuckRabbit
Ouch - that's hard news. I know Mars Williams mainly from his jazz work (with Ken Vandemark, NRG Ensemble, etc.). He is a rare talent.\by DuckRabbit
I'm with you. He's really wonderful. That was a very good read, too, I thought.by DuckRabbit
He was a giant. His solo record Super Nova is a special favorite of mine. Now I'm sad.by DuckRabbit
From just a bit earlier, I also hear that bombast (in the best way possible) in Stiff Little Fingers.by DuckRabbit
I saw Sleepy Kitty in 2016 (opening for Ezra Furman in Durham NC). I enjoyed their set well enough to buy a cd at the merch table.by DuckRabbit
That's funny. I mainly knew them as collaborators with Jon Langford and also with John Doe.by DuckRabbit
