Raj Bahadur's byline might be familiar to some past TP readers. I just learned that Raj passed away in NYC a couple of days ago. I knew Raj when we both wrote for the Cleveland Scene. He was a perceptive and witty writer, a fun guy and the Who's biggest fan. He'll be missed.by locutor
True story: I attended a Grateful Dead concert at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion in 1971 and left at intermission, bored stiff. So I can relate to that. Ten years later, as a freelancer for a Cleveland entertainment weekly, I interviewed Gang of Four. I wanted to ask them about their music; all they wanted to talk about was revolutionary politics and the need to enlighten the masses. Bored stiffby locutor
Fraid not. Chrissie Hynde was also there around this time and I never ran into her either. But the James Gang (Joe Walsh) played local gigs regularly.by locutor
Hands down fave: You Know My Name (Look Up the Number), the B-side of the Beatles' Let It Be. I used to love playing this on the juke box of my favorite haunt at Kent State (yes, I was a student there the year it became famous) and watch other patrons look up quizzically with "WTF is this?" expressions.by locutor
Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss Uhn Tiss - Bloodhound Gang (2005). 4.5 of 5 stars in my MediaMonkey collection. Neanderthal knuckleheads, but I'm a sucker for their rhythms. (You know them from 2000's The Bad Touch - "You and me baby ain't nothing but mammals so let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel.")by locutor
Pete Best - Beatles Henry Padovani - Police Stephen “Tin Tin” Duffy (mentioned above) - Duran Duran OK I'm cheating. List of pre-fame band departures (Wikipedia) To which we could add some founders who left after the group achieved fame but would not likely be known by latter day fans (e.g., Bernie Leadon, Eagles).by locutor
Just found out that Emmitt Rhodes died recently. I was a huge fan; I remember playing his records in my college dorm. And Fleetwood Mac founder Peter Green's death was announced today. Double bummer. A bit before TP's heyday, but seminal figures both.by locutor
