Is anyone watching "Bronx Is Burning" on ESPN?
I know we are anti-sports here, but the use of Ramones songs as a soundtrack is amazing:
Steinbrenner makes Martin and Jackson play nice in the press and "We're a Happy Family" plays.
Martin yells at the team about making stupid mistakes while "Pinhead" is in the background.
Jackson is worried about his slump and "I Wanna be Well" is the soundtrack.
The best was the panning shot of all the Celebs at the Dodgers/Mets series in LA set to the tune of "Cretin Hop".

They use the 1st three albums even though it is set in 1977.

First, Leave Home & Rocket to Russia both came out in '77. I haven't seen the series, but I did read the book it was based on & it was pretty good in the fact that it involved everything that was going on in Fun City at the time besides the Billy/Reggie/Steinbrenner Show(Son of Sam, the summer blackout & riots, Koch being elected, Murdoch buying the Post), although it discussed Studio 54 more than CBGB's.

I don't think this forum is particularly "anti-sports", it's just that it's concentration is on music & rightly so, but I've mentioned the Red Sox in prior posts & others have mentioned other teams & nobody gets shot down. I'm just surprised that there's seems to be no Yankees fans here.

Finally, I watched Ramones Raw last weekend & I was pleasantly surprised by it. End of the Century is definitive, but Ramones Raw was entertaining in a goofy type of way.

I haven't caught Bronx is Burning - I've been meaning to, but always forget about it. Is it going to be on some more?

Speaking of movies set in 77, Spike Lee's SUMMER OF SAM always kind of bugged me because the band Adrian Brody fronted seemed to be about 3 years too early to be appearing at CBGB in 77. They seemed more LA-hardcore punk than anything in NYC that year.

That kind of stuff always bugs me. One of the few things I didn't love about FREAKS AND GEEKS was that one of the characters had a poster for the film version of THE WALL, which didn't come out until 1982, while the show took place in 1980.

Sigh - being a nerd is such a damn hard life.

We're not anti-Sports, we're just pro-Red Sox. The Yankees don't have any good rock & roll songs associated with them (except briefly in "Mrs. Robinson"). We've got "Dirty Water," man! And "Moonshoot Manny" (by the Pernice Brothers).

Off to visit the Standells thread...

Erik, I hate to tell you this, but the Yankees do play "Blitzkrieg Bop" (the Hey Ho, Let's Go! chant) @ Yankee Stadium, which pleases the ghost of Johnny Ramone, as he was a big Yankees fan.

What were you doing in Yankee stadium?! Do I have to contact the Commonwealth authorities regarding you?

That is disappointing news, though.

Erik, I plead not guilty to visiting Yankee Stadium, although I would actually would like to go there before they tear it down. I actually can't believe that Steinbrenner is going to destroy the House that Ruth Built. Shea Stadium, where the Beatles played, will also be going under the wrecker's ball soon.

Well, OK then. On a side note, did you ever see the pics of Bill Janovic, Theo Epstein, and Eddie Vedder jamming at (I think) Toad's place? It was a small Janovic show. A quintessential Boston situation. I think there are pics on the Buffalo Tom site. Btw, Buffalo Tom are headlining Larkfest here in the park in Albany on 9/15. (I say "here" but I actually live in the Catskill foothills outside Albany.)

Jeez, Ira didn't say a bloody thing when I pointed out that the Yankees actually had a Yaz Day in the Stadium back in '67.

<<don't get me started on the f**king Mets!!!!!>>

I would have agreed w/you totally after Game 6 back in '86

Yaz in '67, eh? Their psychedelic era, before they went techno-pop?

Pardon me, but the core foundation on which Trouser Press was built is pinstripe through and through. I've been a diehardtruebelieverfan Yankee since the age of, i'd say, 5 or 6 (i've got most of the '62 team's autographs on two sheets of notebook paper from a business trip to DC my father took me on and we happened to stay at the hotel where the Yanks were for a series with the Senators). And Jim Green loves the team more than I do. If i wasn't such a decent comradely sort of fella, I would ban all of ye's Sox stooges on basic principle! and don't get me started on the fucking Mets!!!!!!!!

Vedder sang the 7th inning stretch song at Wrigley about 2 weeks ago. Last year on Mother's Day he and his daughter threw the first pitch. Being ex-NYer and ex Met's fan (I have all the '69 mets autograph on a program, and Marv Thornberry's) and current Cub's fan since '78..............ah ferget it.

If I remeber correctly RTR came out in late '77 around November well after the season was over.

As of a couple of days ago, I'm an Orioles fan (they lost 30-3).

There is nothing surprising about Johnny Ramone having been a Yankees fan. Infer from that what you will.

As a youth attending many Red Sox games, I was mesmerized by the reaction to the Standells' "Dirty Water" and, later, the J. Geils Band's "Love Stinks"...

Having been to more Braves games than I care to count, I've really enjoyed the way Andrew WK gets the locals lusting for blood the past 5 or 6 years.

The most noteworthy stadium music experience I've had was at a Patriots playoff game some years back when Blur's "Song 2" was first played at Gillette Stadium... and the fans went berzerk. That struck me as extremely strange.

Then again, is anything weirder than the ongoing fascination with Glitter's "Rock & Roll, Pt. 2"?

There was a story a few years ago about some Fugazi song ("Waiting Room"?) being played regularly at Redskins games until Ian found out about it and put a stop to all that.
