WHO WAS THE FIRST ROCK N ROLL BAND?

excluding bands that were backing bands. example buddy holly n the crickets or instrumental bands like the vewntures who was the first eQUAL ROCK n roll bnd where the whole band played instruments.

for the life of me im trying to think of bands before the beatles and all i can come up wth is the beach boys who i think were around a little before.
also the possibilty that some do wop bands some of the members played instruments as well?

You could make a case for the Rock N Roll Trio (Johnny Burnette-Guitar, Dorsey Burnette-Bass and Paul Burlison-Guitar) but you are right, it is pretty slim pickin's

Actually, the Crickets first put out singles under the band name, and considering that band members helped write a lot of the hits, I'd say they were a true band. Of course, the record company didn't see it that way...
