I got to play maracas with the Balancing Act once.

Otherwise, it was playing rubber band guitar on a smokin' version of "You Are My Sunshine" in the Shipman, Illinois Cub Scout Den 4 talent show band.

i guested in Velvet Crush once.

I played mandolin for a month and a half in an Austin combo called Renee Montgomery and Big Bad Love. We played what was essentially pop music with bluegrass instrumentation. I thought it had a lot of promise, but some unexpected personality conflicts brought it to a swift end.

A few months later I heard Nickel Creek doing essentially the same thing, with lamer songs but far better musicianship, and thought, "Damn, I knew we were on to something."
