Never got into oi - always sounded a little fascist to me, like for football hooligans. Music to beat-up-immigrants-by.

Having said that, I do really like "Banned from The Pubs" by Peter and the Test-Tube Babies.

Looking back on Sick of it all and The Cro mags, maybe they were oi. One song I like that is sorta oi is Local Boy by The Rifles.

A "little" fascist?
Some are quick to point out that some bands in that scene were anti-racist/fascist, but, then, by what standard were they Oi?

I remember picking up the Strength Through Oi comp to get a handle on it. When a friend told me it was named for Strength Though Joy the LP was Banned from our Pub.

::I was thinking Banned (which is a good track) was on that comp but it was on a different one....?

Found it.
It was Punk & Disorderly that I liked. It's not all Oi bands, though.

Sick of it all and Cro-mags - Oi? If anything the Cro-mags are part of the wide spread krishna core movement (I kid). To me they are definitive NYC hardcore. I've always thought Oi was exclusive to England, the idea would be hard to reproduce here.

As for best Oi bands:
The Business
Angelic Upstarts -who were/are extremely anti-Fascist

Am I wrong in thinking that Sham 69 was Oi?

Didn't Paul Weller utter those two letters first?
Maybe it was his mum?
Exasperated like.

I used to be in a ska band about a hundred years ago and there were always skinheads hanging around trying to get you to listen to those shitty Oi compilations, Oi The Album, Strength Through Oi etc. A lot of it was shit but The Business always stood out and I liked the Kids of The Eighties album by Infa Riot.
The worst was a bunch of Nazi fucks called The Last Resort.

I could be wrong , but who really gives a fuck about a bunch of brain dead scum.

The Leftovers (not the seminal Brisbane punk band who's name we were criticised over taking by anyone we ever ran into from said city).
Recorded 2 singles which I still see floating around from time to time online for ridiculous prices.

Oingo Boingo. They must be an Oi band.

Rumor has it Danny Elfman's a Scientologist. Perhaps skinhead would be better?

Cockney Rejects for me
Re: favorite oi band

Oi Polloi (esp. the first album)
Angelic Upstarts
Cockney Rejects
(early) Business
(early) Cocksparrer

The main problem (aside from the lyrics) with so many oi bands is that for a lot supposedly filled with passion, lust for glory, etc. they seemed to have boots of lead whenever they entered a studio.
