Analysis of previous poll:

Mats - not surprised that Let it Be came out on top; Trouserians are likely keen on the variety, swagger, surprise, wit and growth. (I don't understand how Tim can beat Pleased, but that's the fun of it). The real shite happens when we select second best.

Kate Bush - Not surpringly it was between Hounds and Dreaming and voters are fairly split between which album can run the country better.

Cure - Wow, I always thought I was in some kind of minority liking Head on the Door. And I always thought people hated Seventeen Seconds/Faith/Pornography, but these releases aren't a challenge to TPers. I thought Kiss Me would come out on top (it was well represented). My speculation is that some view the Cure as a drone band that later fell off the space wagon. Others think they went into depressing territory before waking up and into their shining pop glory. Some feel it they were best as young punks and others feel they had to mature and blend all of the above to truly achieve. This speaks alot, actually, for a band I haven't listened to much in years. I've since pulled out the old vinyl of 3iB and Kiss Me.

Cult - Similar theory. Most feel the Cult was best at Love and that Electric was something of a sell-out. Others feel that Love was a bit proggy and Electric is the truer representaion. Nonetheless, Love wins.

B-52s. A no-brainer. A gimme, I suppose (what? no love for Planet?). So...we move on to the better challenge.

Yo La Tengo - Had zero predictions on this one, though, as I like Heart Beating and Nothing Turned equally, I'm surprised that Heart came out so strongly.

Sonic Youth - Daydream always wins. I'm quite curious for round 2 on this one.

Roxy - All the classic are well represented. Round two will be interesting; what will come out of the closet? F+B? Manifesto? Viva?

P.I.L. - Metal Box is probably a no-brainer amongst Trouserians though the general public would likely stick with the less-challenging Album. Though Box isn't my favorite PIL, it's a classic for reasons beyond listenability. (And what is with youse guys picking This is What You Want over Commercial Zone? The version with the guitars wiped and replaced by horns and disco beats is better? Plus their best track -Bad Night- is missing on the TIWYW version.)
Is Metal Box/2nd Edition simply the best listen, is it considered the classic lineup, or is it the winner simply because they deserve accolades for the risk/achievement? Because, it can be argued that Flowers of Romance is a more challenging listen. Guess I thought this one would be all over the place.

New Order - No surprise that Power Corruption Lies wins; it's a strong batch. The surprise was the singles/Ep taking 2nd. You're saying their strongest tracks are: Mesh, Everything's Gone Green, In a Lonely Place, Tempation and Hurt (and not the versions remixed for Substance)? I relistened to the whole damn catalog for that question, so, that was pretty cool.

Smiths - Even though Queen is my least favorite Smiths, I've grown accustomed to people preferring it (not that I get it). Bombs was surprisingly well represented.

Hitchcock - Perhaps the most informative poll. Who knew? I put this one up because I was listening to Element of Light. Note how well the acoustic Dream of Trains represented and how a few people feel he's only now at the top of his game (Ole Tarantula). Though I thought there'd be a much stronger take on Globe/Queen/Eye, it's Fegmania and Dream of Trains.

Ponys - Apparently the most consistent band touring.

GBV - The era was defined. They move into the next elimination (with a couple extra bones thrown in).

Bowie - Harder to pick a second best, no? The numbers speak for themselves and Low takes it. (note Baker didn't support his assertion). Now on to the clincher; conventional wisdom is Ziggy...right?

Floyd - Love went to Syd, natch, but I thought Animals would represent.

Seniors - Davies is a Well Respected Man About Town! (I was just listening to the oft overlooked Lincoln County and it blew me away). But what's this - love for Bruce but not Mick?! No justice. I don't really care for Neil but I respect him, so that's cool with me. An intentionally vague question; open to interpretation. Maybe we should poll the next generation down or maybe rock's most eccentric? (calling Mark E). Nah, let's rearrange this one and see what happens.

One decent album - If The The, Ultravox, Television and Nirvana only had one, then this begs some definition, don't it!

??

Lincoln County is a Dave song, not a Ray one (it was originally released as a solo single in the UK).
