Farrell's comments seem ill-timed. I think the "music industry" is being nicely dismantled. When Daughtry tops the charts one month with 60,000 sold and then Modest Mouse turns around this month with 129,000 sold, I think that's progress. I'm supposed to declare it problem because a few record execs can't afford the mortgage on their stucco mansions? Fuck that. Soundscan and radio have no say over the health of music. I found lots of stuff to listen to this year that was top notch--and people like the Shins and Modest Mouse are on the charts. The "industry" is just fine. And so is the "art." Lollapalooza Perry is just another bureaucrat whining about his standard of living. "Joins Metallica" indeed. Good work, Madisdadi.
