Listening to the 70s pop station online right now, and they're playing "Rock and Roll Heaven" by the Righteous Brothers, and I'm thinking there has never been a more un-rock & roll song about rock & roll. But I could be wrong.

That doesn't rock me, it gives me a headache. More like a goose-step march than rock & roll. (The full band version that Queen used to play live was much better.)

Wow, about half the songs on Madis' list are unfamiliar to me. Those are songs I'm either going to have to seek out ... or need to avoid like the plague. (Or for that matter, like Stevie Nicks and Pussycat Dolls records.)

There's "Rock and Roll Lullabye" by BJ Thomas, which I actually like ever since it first hit the charts back in 1972, when I was a mere lad o' ten

I wouldn't say that Wilco's Heavy Metal Drummer is un-rock-and-roll but it is definitely un-heavy-metal. Especially considering that the lyric is kind of a poem to metal.

Twisted Sister's "I Believe in Rock n Roll", which somehow manages to suggest that true Rock & Roll is a kind of fascist conformity and disturbingly presents the idea that to really love Rock & Roll, you have to perform the sacrament of marriage with it.............. - in the immortal words of Bart Simpson : set your faces to stun.

So what is the greatest song about listening to the radio?

Modern Lovers - "Roadrunner"
VU - "Rock and Roll"
Ramones - "Rock & Roll Radio"

("Radio Radio" doesn't count, as it's all about radio sucking. And "I Love Rock & Roll" is about the jukebox)

Any song that shares a list with "Roadrunner" is probably going to lose to that one.

One of my favorite songs about rock & roll isn't a rocker, but is still a great song: "Rock & Roll Fantasy" by the Kinks (not to be confused with the Bad Company [ptui] song of the same name).
