I have always enjoyed Rock 'n Roll With The Modern Lovers (which came out in '77). I think Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers came out in '76. Also, Rumours is great for what it is. One of the major irritants I had w/the recent book Kill Your Idols was the chapter trashing it, which read like a bad parody of Lester Bangs.

Jonathan Richman and... & Rock and Roll with... both came out in 77, and both are great.

"Dodge Veg-O-Matic" is a great song, especially w/the spoken into where Jonathan talks about how bad Massachusetts drivers are (which is the stone truth, me being a resident of said Commonwealth)

I obtained the Iggy Pop comp A Million In Prizes a couple of years ago & I enjoyed the songs from "Lust for Life" & "The Idiot". I still haven't gotten throught CD2 of it yest.

I was listening to Rumours a while back and was suprised at how well it holds up.

i never liked the saints first Lp. BUT, it does define "gray" music- not pretty, not ugly. Just pretty ugly.
wire was good-buzzcocks better.
still stunning to think kim fowley recorded modern lovers in '71
Cheap tricks first album IS one of rocks finest.
The Pistols first remains undated and influential.
Thin Lizzy made one of the years best and their best overall Lp that year.
Ire man, Boomtown Rats, Undertones and U2 purchase guitars and drums.

Maybe I'll try to consider it that way, soon. I've managed to jettison virtually all of my anti-commercial vitriol by now, but the memory of two little kids at a church picnic during the '70s, walking around all day singing, "Don't ... stop ... thinking about tomor-row ..." OVER AND OVER AGAIN, might still be interfering with my ability to be objective to *Rumours*.
