Artists you like that you're sure most of the board has never heard of. . .

For me, it's Luke Doucet, a great canadian artist. . . "It's not the liquor I miss" was my favorite song of last year.

OK, these are some local Boston favorites. Nothing too obscure, but should meet the criteria:

The Beatings: Veer between Yo La Tengo gentless and high octane punk. Have 3 singers, one of whom has a bloodcurdling scream that makes Black Francis sound like John Denver.

Scissorfight: Occassionaly cartoonish stoner metal with killer riffs and a New Hampshire fixation.

Hallelujah the Hills: Down-to-earth indie pop with cello, trumpet, and melodica flourishes. Great variety -- obviously strive to make each song a lyrical and musical gem.

Dammit, I just discovered this thread. Sorry to bring up old news...

I don't know how many of these folks would fall under the category of y'all having never heard of 'em, but here are some artists I adore that I never see talked about around here:

The BellRays
The Music Lovers
Porcupine Tree
Earl Greyhound
The Coffee Sergeants
Neil Leyton
Paul K (who actually has a Trouser Press entry, but nobody seems to remember he exists, even though he's still putting out records)
Otis Taylor
The Wannabes
The Green Pajamas
Pat Todd & the Rank Outsiders (which is basically the Lazy Cowgirls under a new name)
Pong
Unto Ashes
Snatches of Pink (OK, they've also got a TP page, but again, they've gotten so under the radar that no one's noticed the albums they've released the past few years)

There's been some Bellrays chatter on this board. . . And I'm pretty sure Ira is a Green PJs fan, if I remember correctly. But then again that might be one of the other Iras (Kaplan, Hayes, Louvin, etc)...

Speaking of Ira Louvin, I just saw Charlie L in an in-store appearance last Sunday and he was great. Pretty feisty for an 80 year old geezer.

And just this morning as I was grabbing discs to listen to in the car for the next week I grabbed a Porcupine Tree disc. Didn't listen to it yet, but it is in the car now, where it will likely stay until August or so, when I'll find it under the seat.
I play the Green Pajamas' best-of "Through Glass-Colored Roses" all the time. Great songs.
