I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this. I think he does. I'm not a big (medium) fan but then I'm not a huge fan of many of the bands that are reviewed.

i just had this conversation with someone (was it you?). I never liked the guy's music (too California singer-songwriter), but we've certainly covered worse, so it's not much of an argument any more thanks to the broadening of TP's scope online from what the books (and magazine) were a lot stricter about.

Ira, Yeah it was me. When I look at what you do have I see no reason that he shouldn't be considered. Good or Bad review. I'd love to see what you had to say. You're a talented and funny writer.

BTW, Ira. Where is the Brian Jonestown Massacre? as much as I despise that guy..he is certainly deserving of "Alternative" and he actually has something musically.. to recommend himself. Check out a live show..It can be really weird and good.

I'd thought about submitting a Zevon entry to see if it would fly, but now it would look like I was just doing it because someone suggested it, so I doubt that I will. I'm contrary that way.

Had coincientally also pondered doing a Tonio K entry, since Rhino did officially declare him New Wave in the Just Can't Get Enough series. But my copy of Life in the Foodchain warped long, long ago and I've never summoned the energy to replace it.

Speaking of Californicators, I could've sworn there was an entry for Greg Copeland on this site, but apparently I'm wrong. I think he was from California, anyway...was produced by Browne, if I recall.

Erick, I really have no opinion on this one....but He's Certainly not Mssrs. Eddy.Dale or Wray but the point of my bringing it up was that I have/had a friend called Seth Wimpfheimer. As to instros: Eddie Angel of Los Straitjackets, who is still active (and someone I know pretty well) is pretty much the greatest going right now. His biggest muse is Link Wray, but his prettier compositions also echo Hank B. Marvin and the Ventures. He's equal part primitive (Trashmen, Link) and sophisticate (Shadows, Ventures)--and pretty much worshipped worldwide in instro circles.

But didn't the first TP guide have an entry on Dire Straits, indicating that they were originally mistaken for a new wave group? Or did I imagine that?

Seems to me that TK might merit inclusion for the same reason. On the other hand, it's not like a longer review from Ira would really fill a major hole in my life.

He's an Old Friend from New Jersey. He's got a fairly definitive body of Davie Allen shit. Actually, It seems to be a huge almost Obsessive /Compulsive disorder with him. Last I had spoken to him it was the Teardrop Explodes. Julian Cope was smoking crack with him in some London bunker.. Just thought I'd check on Seth.

I am one of the biggest guitar instro album freaks there is...but Davie Allen is almost impossible for me to listen to. That buzzy, ridiculous guitar sound. I can't get it.

Alternative? What's that? Look at the many inductees at Trouser Press and try and discern a real difference. Is P.M. Dawn alternative?....I'd argue that Warren Zevon is CERTAINLY within the guidelines of T.P. but someone is being stubborn because they personally don't like him.. IMO, It's fine to give him an intelligent yet bad review it's not okay to say that he is somehow in this other class that is undeserving of a review. At the end of the day it's up to the T.P to decide but it does seem rather odd to me.

Yeah, he's got Jackson Browne on his records, but don't hold that against him. He rocks alot harder then most of the usual Laurel Canyon suspects, with a deliciously nasty, subversive wit. I quite thoroughly enjoy his "Greatest Hits" album, but I just don't think that anyone who consorted with Linda Ronstandt is ever really gonna be considered "alternative."

Actually, the book "Laurel Canyon" that chronicles that scene mentions a few folks with TP entries - not just Neil & Waits, but Zappa, even Nico. Where to draw the line...?
